It is a long, long story
To summarize his son was drunk driving a boat and wrecked leading to the death of a girl on the boat. He and his family were all lawyers that were very influential in that community and had been for 200 years. Family of the girl that got killed hired a great lawyer that was coming after Alex hard for wrongful death lawsuit (~8 million dollars). Alex was going to have to produce financial statements June 10th in court for the wrongful death lawsuit. June 7th he killed his son and wife. His father was also on his deathbed, and turns out he had a severe addiction to opioids. Several things all added together that pushed him over the edge
Gotta live up to the nickname...

Did they ever figure out the motive for the killing? Was it because of the wrongful death suit causing it to expose other crimes he may have been guilty of and he was blaming his son and wife?
My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

Never got a chance to follow the trial. But dang he killed his wife and child! What was his motive.....insurance money? No real motive addressed. Maybe he did it, but I wouldnt have convicted based on the evidence i saw. No motive that made sense and the two weapons used are enough for reasonable doubt. When you consider that the prosecution lied about the bloody shirt....no way would I convict.
