There was a device for sale for quite awhile that you used a milling and drill bits in. It would do 80% receivers for several different firearms with basically a push of a button.
ATF got their panties in a wad when somebody started charging people to use the machine in his garage. He would set everything up then his customer pushed the button. So technically building his own receiver. For a little more money he assisted in putting together a complete fire arm. i dont think he was convicted of a crime but they shut him down.

My grandson is in the 9th grade. He is in a STEM magnet school. He prints stuff on their 3D printer.

I believe it is only the lower that is being printed, because that’s the part that’s supposed to have the serial number on it. Then you could put whatever upper on it you want that actually does the work.
