A small tracking device is placed in the antler and the antler is then placed out in the woods for someone to find. The authorities are able to locate the antler if an individual were to move it (take it home). Many places do not allow antler removal at all or only during certain time periods.

So it's ok to disturb wildlife by placing an entrapment object in a so called " protected " area , but not ok to remove it ?

Huh?, you can't pick up an antler anymore? Is this the new eagle feather.

Wind Cave NP just down the road was placing a large bleached Buffalo skull by the road this summer and waiting for people to stop and pick it up. They busted several people trying to take it. Talk about entrapment!!! What a worthless place I don’t even like driving though it!! Miss managed prairie dog infested dump!!

They do it here mostly in national parks and for other things like sheep horns and such. We have an island where a bunch of sheep live and some guy got busted for taking a horn.

We have alot of winter road closures here on public lands to " protect wildlife " . Almost no predator control as a result . Lots of dead deer

It hasn't worked and won't but the department of fish and wildlife know best

I guess you all think using decoys for poachers is entrapment as well?
The antler is laying there and you pick it up that is not entrapment. You made the choice to break the law.
We're talking about areas that do not allow antler gathering or have winter range closures to protect wintering animals which by the way are struggling this winter across the West.

Agree with part of it but using decoys to get poachers nope there is no law about shooting a decoy they get you for shining , shooting from the road etc, they do it here in Illinois but not once has that stopped a poacher that shoots a buck and cuts off the skull cap and I have seen this numerous times . They don't catch these guys because of laziness and the decoy is all about getting money. As for sheds they have the same B.S. rules on public ground here to but last I recall our tax money buys the ground and they try to determine how we should get to use it and if a a politician found a shed on public ground they would go out of their way to let them keep it.

Big money in shed collecting, especially on the wintering grounds in the west where a lot of elk drop their sheds in a relatively small area.
Shed collecting is still allowed in those areas but there will be a starting date, almost like an opening day for hunting season. In some of the good areas there will be 4-500 people lined up waiting for the opening. It’s a mad dash when the clock strikes.

Decoys are set up to prevent poaching, as there is a big financial incentive to sneak in early.
Some area like National Parks it’s strictly prohibited.

Decoy deer to stop SHOOTING from the road is a different beast . Last I checked shed hunting can be done without a gun . But you might want a side arm in some places

Sort of like a "Bait Car", or "Hooker Cop". They work extremely well.
Laws is laws. If you don't like em' focus on getting get em' changed ...... not breaking em'.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse either. Lame excuses should get double fines, not leniency.

Stay legal and it should not be a worry. Just because you do not agree with a law, doesn't mean you should break it.
