We put up a couple otter today, leather was pretty clear, real fatty, fleshed pretty easy.

Looks good. The only problem I have fleshing them is doing the tail. But I am lucky if I catch one a year so I don't get a lot of practice.

To facilitate ease in fleshing the tail of otter, slit and cross hatch the beads of fat being careful not to cut the leather. Nice put up newfox 1.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I don't have any issues In fleshing an otter tail. To me It's easier then the rest of the critter. Take off each edge on the tail and then do the middle.

Nice clean Otter.
Why the big scallops at the skirt?

I agree with Bctomcat, and the Beav, I cut the tail fat lengthwise , one cut each side .then I flesh edges first then down the middle.
Boco no reason they didn’t get pinned together is all.

Idk if this is what you seasoned guys do, but I had some luck with using the dull side of my knife and slicing like was already stated. Down each side, then down the middle...on the tail of an otter, that is.

Not much things prettier in the fur shed than a nicely clean scraped otter

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I use a beaver knife and take the membrane off to show the fat. I then use the dull side of my fleshed to remove the fat. I got to the point that it don't take long. I don't push to hard when taking the fat off but when my otter get graded they have graded select but singed. That last couple did any way??
