An idea I have been thinking about for a while now. But this storm on the great plains, Gulo's trip to Rochester, MN and Bernie's car wreck near Denver brought it together for me.

Here's the idea and I welcome other ideas or comments.

Lets suppose we ask members to voluntarily submit their phone number, location and first name, to a data base that we create.

Next, a traveler submits his itinerary and proposed route to the TMAN person administering the data base.

The TMAN administrator of the data base can lay the route onto something like Map Quest and correlate the route with member contact information along that route. That list of contacts is made available to the traveler to use if he must.

Nothing mandatory. Volunteer only.

Another way..........and maybe simpler....... would be for the traveler to lay out his route on this forum and any one who is inclined can PM their contact info and location directly to the traveler if they are able to help in a bad situation.

Think its a great idea. Most of us on wilderness lines have Inreaches that we can carry even on road trips.....but they can fail too. Mine quit last week when I could have used it.

Back in the old days we had something very similar to your idea that went through the old HF radios. It was a dedicated trappers sched and it ran for 33 years straight. A lot of lives were saved in that time.

We had a similar thing here Dave with folks on HF checking with each other every night at specific times.

Good idea . Extra peace of mind if a person is out on the road in unfamiliar territory

Just home from Grand Rapids ,Minn. Had some vehicle problems. Would have been a comfort knowing that if all else failed there would be someone locally to contact for advice/assistance.
Good idea. Hope it proceeds.

I mentioned something similar last night on the weather thread that Jack posted on...I monitor a FB group, in Montana, who, moment by moment, answer, ask, and help others as they drive. Anywhere in the state. Some post photos and small video of the snow or wind drifts . It's the best instant help group I've seen so far.

I mentioned, something similar, that everyone could use, not only on FB, would really be helpful.

When I helped my friend move all her things , from MT to Texas, some years ago, there were Tman Tribe members here who monitored and helped me with advice all along the way.

I was driving a moving semi truck , towing her Lexus car, she was in front towing her own trailer. It was a long, cross-country, tiring drive .

To have such help at the ready would be wonderful, also, so much safer, especially in today's climate of undesirable potential confrontations , in cities or problem towns.

You could start a data base that all T-man members could access. Anyone who wanted to sign up could put their location and contact info in the data base ?? That way any members that are traveling could access the data if they needed too. They could contact members for assistance or even information like road conditions or a whole host of things. Looks like there are members scattered across NA so there could potentially be a lot of people to contact?

A tow truck driver saved me a ton of money a few years ago with local knowledge. I was halfway between two towns when i broke down. Found out later he saved me thousands. That kind of info is helpful. Just a thought.

Another approach would be that whoever has the data base makes his phone number available to the traveler. If the traveler has a problem he calls the administrator, tells him/her where he is and what the problem is. Admin can look at the database and get a couple contacts that may be nearby and hook them up with the traveler. Maybe that would be simpler. Almost like AAA

Cool idea White17.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Yeah. My hesitation there is in making that much information accessible online.

What about something like a Trapperman phone book . Hard copy ??

A sticky thread with members willing to offer assistance with a mile radius of a town, city or area that member would be willing to cover. The issue would be on how the one needing assistance would get in contact with the member offering assistance. I can see posting one’s phone # on an open forum being not ideal, pm’s could work. As for cell service not to many places in the lower 48 that doesn’t have cell service.. it ain’t Alaska..lo

Just spit balling..

I could create a Tman members only forum to put that on, if that would help. Only registered users could view it.

This would be good also.

I was thinking, not everyone would want their contact numbers readable to anyone , even those who are not members but can see what's posted . It would need to be for members only, like the new forum Mr Paul just created .

To contact the data base administrator, would be perfect.

Could it be downloaded from that forum ?

That might be the simplest thing of all .
