I use all wood stretchers and use a piece of tapered lath for a wedge. If it ever gets stuck I just leave it in a more humid setting overnight and it comes right off, but truth is they rarely ever stick. I don't think a split stretcher would work well for otter with the tail and all.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

One In from the mouth end and one In from the tail end. Doing It this way you won't have any problems. In fact all wedges should be put In from the mouth end. Why would you place a wedge where the thin end goes into the part the dries the tightest.

That part of the board has the taper so I don't have any issues with the head sticking.
