Each Sunday at 2 p.m.. I meet with my business partner/mentor. Used to be 3 p.m. for three shots. After a recent stroke and change in meds. it is now 2 p.m. and no shots. This guy traveled the world staying with tribes in huts, was a pilot and a diver. Now he is on oxygen 24/7 and does not stray far from home.

He keeps telling me how young I am and makes comments about what he would do if he was my age. I am in my late 40's and feel just like the song says I can be "just as good once as I ever was". But I also feel like a big decline is inevitable. For you older gents/gals any advice as to what I should do while i am still in a position (at least mentally) to kick a little rear end?

FYI I am a happily married dad so head out the gutters! lol

I know weird post but hey.

You already have a bucket list in your head nothing says you can’t start early take the wife with you.

If you intend to mountain hunt do it now. Knees are one of the first to go.

Do what you can while you can....cause you're close to the declining side of the bell curve...

Yep your getting to that age. No matter how you feel the wearing down of your body is beginning. Once the kids are out of the house go do some of those bucket list things. Time is fleeting

I had good advice from a senior mentor. He said do everything you dream when you are young because if you wait till you are wealthy and retired, you do not have the body to do the things you dreamed of.

Unless you are independently wealthy, maximize your income so you can build a better retirement pension quicker and get out earlier.
I did that and got out at age 55 with a good pension that I built up when working.
The earlier you can get out the better and more time you will have to do stuff, and work for yourself if, when, where, and what you want and still be in fairly good shape.
I am 67 and have slowed down the last couple years.I noticed things getting harder to do at around 64/65.
The worst thing about getting older is not healing up as fast when you get an injury out on the line.Instead of days or weeks to repair the body, after about age 60 it can take months and some you feel ever a few years after.Joint injurys which are fairly common in the bush take the longest to get over when you are older.Pinched nerves happen when you get older too when you work hard and forget your age and are paindful and some can take a while to get used to.
I can still get around Ok but the strength and stamina is not what it was when I was 40 or 50.
The worst thing by far about getting older is how quickly time goes by compared to when you are younger. When you are 20,one year is 1/20th of your life-When you are 60 a year is only 1/60th of your life so much shorter.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Good advice guys! I'm 61 and can feel age creeping into my body...especially joints. Dad is 87 and worked 40 years in concrete construction...hips, knees, shoulders and hands are shot.
Pain relief is critical but can put a toll on the liver, kidneys, etc... What's the old saying? We ain't getting out of this world alive.

I was going to comment about getting older, but I forgot what I was going to say.

What do you enjoy? Whatever that is, do it.

My wife passion is cruising. I guess that isn’t really age related, but she’s visited every Caribbean third world country there is.

My passion is turkeys so I travel to hunt them. Some States are repeats because I like the subspecies of birds. Others are just throw a dart at a map and start planning. Others are “You ought to come to so and so. I have land and turkeys and don’t hunt them. Kill them all, I hate them.”

Neither my wife or I are “young” anymore, but we are in fairly good health and do what we want while we can. I realize one day I won’t be walking 8-12 miles a day through the mountains chasing gobbles. I’m 55 and gonna do it until I just literally can’t anymore.

Pick what you like or your wife likes or even just “joke” about doing and just do it. And yeah we both started in our 40’s, lol.
For what it’s worth, my 1.5yr old granddaughter is on her first cruise right now with my son and daughter in law. I’d imagine Ellie’s future high school Spring Breaks will be with “Ganny” chaperoning her and her girlfriends, lol.

I just turned 81 and the knees are shot but my wife has always been at my side with my bucket list. She wasn’t into trapping though but that was okay. Lots of rough trail and good old Alaskan days of deep cold.

Live your bucket list while you can, the future is unknown!

I just turned 35 and I feel like life is almost over. Wish I was 20 again. The last 5 years have gone by in a blink of an eye!

If its not in you to do what you'd like to do now, it won't ever be so do it while you have the wznt.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

This picture is about 8 years ago. It’s my granddaughter with a friend having a real good day! He was a heavy equipment operator, loved to fish and hunt. He was 39. Yesterday he passed away from possibly Covid. He had it 3 times. Not sure of the jab though. Life is so uncertain so live it to its fullest, you never know the future!

RIP Ian

Dad always said society had it all wrong - men should do the fun and adventurous stuff in the first years out of school and then work at a job he loves the rest of his life or until he can't no more ... rather than working for 45+ years and then not being able to the adventurous stuff because he is too stiff.
