10 million beaver trappers...? Surely just must be some hyperbole on your part to make a point...

Call Cheryl at FHA @ (705) 495-4688
or e-mail her @ cherylb@furharvesters.com

Tell her you wish to establish a trapper's account.

Have that green fur receipt handy.

I notice that we have two pages of people making excuses for FHA cats, but STILL no one has answered beaverpeeler's question on how they did at the sale.

For years I had always heard that you should send beaver to FHA and all other fur to NAFA. Now that NAFA has gone under I hoped FHA would pick up the slack on non-beaver fur. Maybe that isn't going to happen.

Didn't have any there, but watched the Northern section to see if it makes sense to send some. I was not impressed with the best pushing 140 and most in 80 dollar range. The first couple of pages of westerns were also pretty modest compared to averages seen from the western state sales. I guess we'll see when they post their averages.

I sent them some western cats 3-4 years ago. i won't do it again. Grade was bad. I called and they told me it was a clerical error. They updated it. Still just gave them away.

Lynx sold really decent but it is the bottom of of the cycle up here. I caught one Lynx this year and gave it to Bubba J. Next year should be good I hope the Chinese don't dump 10m ranch mink on the market and weigh it down again.

Anybody know what sections accounted for the no-sales on the lynx cats? I notice 72% sold.

If FHA can't find somebody to pay a trapper more than a dollar for a fresh caught female mink, then FHA is kind of worthless. Just Sayin!

Dirt, I can't agree with that comment at all. The market is the market, whether it's fur, the DOW, the S&P, or any commodity. When nobody wants it, it's akin to digging a big hole in your yard and trying to sell the hole because it took a lot of effort to dig it. Gotta be in the right place at the right time. It's hard for anyone to do something they enjoy doing and not getting a return, but those are simple facts of life. Like trying to sell your shares of Lehman Bros. stock today.

Good western heavy pales were up 6% from last year, Central or commercial cats were up 75% from March of 2022. The better cats looked to be tough to get sold. Nancy is right about selling good cats at the country sales in the west.

So if FHA sells my fur below production cost, are they worth anything to me? Pretty sure they are worthless to me.

That would be correct. If you can't make money selling mink through FHA and can sell them yourself for a profit on your labor, then the answer would be yes. Or, find another activity that does pay you what you need for your time.
