Thanks guys... The "Trapping on Sign" went over pretty well. It is so obvious, I'm surprised I had to come up with that. You guys are slacking. [Linked Image]
Had a great trip out on the line with wonderful weather and even a little fur. [Linked Image]

22 below to 45 above with the sun shining the whole trip.
Finally picked up my big tom lynx above the sheep cabin. I've been trying to catch this joker for four years. Needless to say, he was not near as excited to see me as I him. [Linked Image]

I always love coming around this corner. Everything above it is always awesome when the weather allows [Linked Image]
This was across from the cabin. [Linked Image]
Put on 86 miles on Sunday and didn't cut a single wolf track. Heading back out on Friday and running up the Wood. Might be time to do some calling and hunting. I doesn't do any good messing with gear when it is this warm. Got a coyote and lynx to put up today. Will post a few pics later. Still haven't figured out the video thing.

I too, smiled seeing that corner. The golden sky enhances the mountains and cool colour tones of winter. Everything just glows in that lighting...even in the shadows, translucent glacier blue. The pics of the cat are superb. The wuff is wonderful too.

You were right, March is warmer , seems to be much warmer, than earlier months.

Careful of that moving water under the ice.

Welcome to our Idaho weather. Gotta love trying to keep traps working in that freeze/thaw. And snow sets melting out.

You have some gorgeous country out there and the weather seems to be cooperating for enjoying it. I feel for you in that overflow though! YUCK.

Congrats on winning that long term chess game with the lynx, good looking one.

I was wondering if my wolves went to your country, but sounds like they vacated both of us.

Those critters that put up a fight are the ones you remember. I messed with a cat for a couple months a few years ago. I knew he was a big one, he kept giving me slip and the finger. I remember the day I finally walked up on him. He was extremely grouchy, 34lb tom.

Had a friend of mine and his son come out on the line with me for a few days and we set some gear and checked some line. A couple coyotes had dug up the bone pile up at the neighbors so we hung a few snares in the woods around it. Picked up a little 23# coyote in the first snare we hung. He was excited about that so I gave it to him I sent them home after 3 days and was going to put out some more gear but the temps warmed up and got some nasty weather moved in. I decided to sneak out early in the morning where the headlights would help me see the trail. That worked good until I hit the Little Delta and sunk in the new overflow. Spent 2 1/2 hours messing around in that before finally getting out. I filmed most of the recovery but... well,,, it is in technical difficulty bin... [Linked Image]

Ran back out a couple days later and picked up a nice gray wolf in a pee post with some dog straw. You know what they say,,,, trap on sign. Well it works. [Linked Image]

Spent one day testing some handholds for my 6.5-06 until I found one that worked. 120 grain Sierra Matching BTHP flew as true as this blind shaky clown can shoot. 5 shot group at 100 yards. [Linked Image]
Got some more snow and wind over the beginning of the week and made for an interesting trip back to the truck. Only got stuck once pulling the groomer on the way out. Starting to figure out how to drive that machine after 7K miles. Little bit of a slow learner I'd say.
Getting ready for the ATA Fur Auction now and will probably start pulling gear this week. old luck and be safe.

FWIW, you sure did zero in on a great handload for your 6.5. An excellent, tight group.

Greetings Trappers. Came back off the line yesterday. Doing some freighting and getting ready for spring bear baiting. Got all but a few of the wolf traps pulled and most of the snares. Been a pretty slow year for wolves on the line but that is great for the moose in the valleys. [Linked Image]
Hauled this old Pug out from the Wood River yesterday for a friend. Collapsed the suspension on the Expedition so my trip got cut short. [Linked Image]
The trip into the cabin was crazy. Left in the sunshine and met a snow storm half way in. It is funny how hard it is to see in the flat light but the camera picks up the trail fine. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Weather cleared off that evening and the next day was awesome [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Being so nice I decided to burn some powder and play with the .375 H&H in preparation for some grizzly elimination. That big dog will hunt..... [Linked Image]
Lots of people out and about with the long days and warm weather. Speaking of warm weather, our annual ATA Fur & Antler Auction and Fling went very well this year. We didn't have a lot of fur or antler but did well with what we had. Our Auctioneer is one of the best in the business and made short work of what we had. We sold $70,000 worth of fur and antler. We had 41 trappers bring furs in from one hide to 100. Thank you to all who brought in furs and special thanks to all the volunteers who helped out during the auction. We cannot do events like these without volunteers and this year we had a heck of a group of 22 from 10 years old to 65 years young. [Linked Image]
As for the Fling, it was awesome, sold out on tickets and great donations. Of course you already heard, I won the ivory trap....
[Linked Image]
I like to say I won it instead of bought it as it makes me feel better. Had to sell my truck and trailer to get home that night but worth it to me. It is always great to see everyone at the Fling. The highlight of my evening was meeting and talking with Audrey Magoun "The Wolverine Biologist". It was fun to pick her brain even if only for 10 minutes. She donated a wolverine print done in Pointillism which is a drawing done in small distinct dots. The artist is James E. Lawrence. It is amazing and seemed to stare at me the all evening until the auction. Had to do some rearranging at the house but everyone is in their place now. Next year is the ATA's 50'th Anniversary so the Fling should be amazing.
Still having technical difficulties so no videos as of yet. Got a little more freighting to do this week. You all be safe as spring is upon us and along with that comes overflow, open water and avalanches

Glad the weather finally cleared for you to wrap things up and enjoy your scenery. There's that nice curve in the trail around the boulder.

The Fling sounded wonderful , in success too.

Now you've had an enjoyable time placing your trap and the Pointillism wolverine print in with all your collection. I call that style stippling. In ink, that's what I do for shading and detail.

Next year's 50th Fling will be amazing, indeed .... thank you for the share , JR.

Already know what trap I’ll be doing for the 50th! But it’s a surprise!

Well we'd appreciate you getting started now that you know. This year was Close... got it at 1pm day of. Are you going to deliver it personally? I'd buy you a seat at the table with Sharon and I...

Well, I'd say Happy Spring Trappers but I'm not sure it is. Got some more snow out at the cabin but most of the new stuff blew away i think. I did get some more freighting done. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Went off the trail 3 times in 40 miles on the way out riding the Expedition Sport. Little easier to tip back onto her track for sure. [Linked Image]
Got some more firewood put up on a nice day [Linked Image]
My little ermine was a little mad that I was cleaning up the leftover bait around the cabin. She seemed to sense what I was doing and packed bait off all day long. Made for some good photo ops. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Got the door on the shop fixed after the bear problem. [Linked Image]
My two clients for spring bear canceled at last minute so if any of you guys wanna shoot a spring grizzly bear over bait in May, let me know quickly. Charging $12-$15 grand per hunter. Would like 2 maybe 3 hunters total. Got one more trip out this weekend I believe.

I'm having lots of trouble posting videos to YouTube also. Since I updated to Windows 11 that new editor is a real pain.

I can watch that ermine all day. Wonderful close-ups, JR. Maybe she will be there next spring this time, too.

The weather sure turned nice.

The ship lap and repaired door is good.

Anyone signing up for your bear hunts are in for a treat indeed.

I heard some other disgruntled cabin owners up there that were on the bear rampage as well. I imagine there will be a few dead ones scattered around before end of summer. Good luck on your hunts! If you need an extra tag let me know, I might come smoke one for you.
