Anyone have one? Do you shoot it and what do you use it for? I just purchased one and it looks like it will be a fun little gun to plink with.

That isn't one you see everyday. I know a guy with a Winchester 61 in 22 short for same and they command a premium.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Dads was a takedown model and came with a woven case that had 2 separate pouches for both pieces. It was originally my uncles,he was violating with it one day and shot a nice buck. The deer dropped, got back up and slowly walked away,my uncle said the gun jammed so he walked along side of the deer trying to pick the empty case out with his jackknife .The deer got momentum and took off,my uncle was mad and told my dad he could have it for $15.This was in the forties, dad scrapped enough money together and bought it.Today's value is considerably more than $15.

I just purchased it today on GunsInternational.com from a Maine snowbird living in Florida. I'll grab a screenshot for now and post pics when I get my mitts on it. I've wanted one of these for decades...made a semi-impusle buy today.

I've had good luck with it. I only buy from sellers who have multiple past and current listings on the site.

Don't have an 1890 but I do have a 1906 that was manufactured in 1913. It is a take down, and it is a fun little rifle to shoot.

Nice. I wanted one of these since I was a kid. My first girlfriend's dad had a couple and I always admired them. I've read they were really popular at carnival shooting galleries. I guess it's no wonder they're hard to find with decent rifling. I like the octagon barrel.

This one has a lot of oil soaked in the head of the stock by the looks of it.

First gun I ever shot. I was 4 or 5 years old. My dad and I sat on the side porch steps and shot into a giant poplar tree about 15 feet away. That's about all I remember about it. I do remember years later I went with him and traded it off for a Remington 121 Fieldmaster (I still have it) at the Seneca Gun Shop, West Seneca, NY. I was probably 7 or 8. I'll be 72 in early July. The 121 is still just as slick and accurate as the day he bought it. I don't remember anything about the 1890 other than we had it and I was fascinated with the hammer and octagon barrel. Just like the guns the cowboys used.

Same here, Paul. I'm going to try to find 500 rounds for it and do some plinking. I probably won't fire 100 of them. I'll pass it along to one of my grandsons.

I've had a couple different old Winchester 74's. One short only, one LR only was dads. Very accurate rifles. I put on a couple miles retrieving squirrel for the old man back 40 years ago. Always wanted a pump .22.

I have a Winchester Model 1890, 22 LR. I would rate it in "very good" condition. It was my Grandfather's back when, I presume he bought it new, he was born in 1889.
They were made in the following calibers ; 22 Special, 22 Long Rifle, 22 Short, 22 Magnum (WRM), maybe 22 Long.

I have to say the pumps are pretty slick especially the Remington's and Winchester's. I'll never not have one. I also have a Remington 141 GameMaster chambered in 35 Remington to match up with the 121. Both carry the factory peep sight. I'm always on the lookout for a 141 carbine in nice shape. Don't see many of them around. It seems when you do find one they are well used and could use some cosmetic TLC.

The 1890 wasn't chambered for the 22 magnum. Actually was the 22 WRF ( 22 Winchester Rim Fire).

I grew up with the 1890 in 22 long only and the model 62a, later in life the model 62. They shoot like they have eyes…lol, my dad bought me the 62a in about 1963 for $30 in a junk store in pristine condition!

You're correct, not sure why I was thinking that.

I'm usually pretty diligent and do my homework before I buy something, especially guns. Maybe this time I didn't dig deep enough. I read the the .22 WRF was all but obsolete making the rounds all but impossible to find. Now I see that's not the case. That would have opened up a lot more options. I wanted something that wasn't just a relic but something I could shoot.

I also read these are caliber specific meaning a rifle chambered in .22 WRF or .22 LR won't cycle .22 Shorts. Maybe that's bad info, I don't know.

Regarding the Model 1890, I'm pretty sure it will only shoot (and cycle) the 22 round it is designated for.

I have a 22 short and a 22 long, yes they are caliber specific.
