Has anyone made their own Belilse style safeties for body grippers? If so what gauge wire did you use? They seem easy to make just being a heavy gauge wire. Though I could be wrong since I can't find any post about people making them. I got some Duke 110's that need safeties so I figured I might as well give it a shot.

Nessmuck on here has posted a few times on how to make ordinary safetys into belisle style safetys with 11ga annealed wire.

I may be wrong but it seems like the Belisle safeties are made of spring steel. It'd be very hard to bend it tight. I'm not sure I could trust any wire that was flexible enough to wrap that tightly around the springs. Some of them have mighty strong springs.

Check the archives for Nessmuck's tips on making safties. If you want Belisle type the I suggest you by them from a supplier and install them instead of running the risk of becoming president of the 330 club.

I have never seen anyone sell replacement Belisle safeties.

Like I said, I think the material they use is too tough to bend them tight onto the springs unless you have Belisle's factory's specialized equipment.

I agree 100%. With the Belisle safety completely formed, there is no way to put it on the round spring eye to get it to the straight portion of the spring arm where it needs to be. Belisle either puts it on the straight spring before they form the round spring ends or they have specialized equipment to wind the ends of the safety in place on the pre-formed spring arm. A vise and channel locks is not gonna get that done.

That’s what I referred to coondagger only I used copper wire. Wrap it tight, it well hold any safety.

I figured there was a reason I hadn't seen anyone make them. The wire material making it impossible makes sense. Thanks coondagger for the links I will give it a try.

I just fixed up my old 330s. I just wrapped 12 or 14g steel wire (really stiff) around the safety then around the arm in opposite directions. Each tail going on opposite sides of the safety. Need the Kleins to cinch em tight and side cutters nipped the end close. Quick file to take off the sharp edge from the cut. Works good.
