Looks like someone used a couple of 16 penny nails. Sure looks that way dont it. I've used 330's for many, many years and have never noticed safetys like that. But maybe i missed that era?

That is an old series one trap.They are still certified for beaver.The safetys look like made from nails. I have done that before. I still have a few left.Important to have strong springs,many have very weak springs from many decades of use. I use the ones I have left for nuisance beaver when there is a chance of bears taking the trap with a beaver in it. If I was setting those series 1 traps for fur it would only be in submerged sets where beaver will drown. Otters can escape from those traps especially if the springs are weakened.
