So far, I have only planted potatoes, onions, turnips, spinach and cuttings of elderberry, lilac and catawba grapes. I need to plant an artesian lettuce blend, peas, carrots and radishes soon.

Lettuce is up , a couple rows of corn planted still to cold for the rest here You're in Illinois and you already have corn in the ground? Wow! Still too cold in the mornings for me to transplant everything into the garden. I usually try to have everything in the ground during the first week of May. Too many very late frosts the last few years. just a couple rows it's a gamble but farmers are planting corn like crazy for a week

I could have planted all but vine stuff and tomatoes. I haven't because ground is just too cold yet here.
Some great looking garden spots and huge garden spots to boot.

Latest I've ever planted since leaving NY. Up yonder you were doing good if you had it in by Memorial day. Down here I usually plant in early April but the non stop rains prevented it this year. Just today planted my corn and beans. Good thing we have a long growing season.
Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

got most everything in , the lambs quarter is only an inch tall since that seed is there all the time it tells you about when it got warm enough to germinate.
direct seed beans , zucchini , cabbage , radish and chard are up
the tomatoes , peppers, eggplant , cucumber and some cabbage went in as plants
all that got put in the 9th 10th or 11th of May
the 7th I think was our last frost the 10th is out typical frost free day ,
once all the plants were in my cold frame got repurposed for herbs basil and cilantro it is just a wood box with a storm window over the top but it works

I only have a Mantis tiller / so I just got done doing what I can with soil prep. South side of house is fixed up too. I would be grabbing a couple of those round bales , the ones furthest gone and mulching the garden with them, mulch it heavy then pull back a row a touch wider than the little mantis tiller , till and plant , and just keep mulching each year. I brought in several truck beds of wood chips last year , it really helps with soil moisture and weeds , the problem is hauling enough of them with my little S-10 garden truck I raked them back and tilled rows this year leaving the chips in the walking paths , it has helped and I need to haul in several more truck loads this year I also bag all my grass clippings for the first few mowings and put that around plants, I let the lawn grow so I am making a down and back on the first mowing to fill the mower bag. got most of my plants mulched with the grass and cardboard down in many of the rows , now I need to get to compost site and pick up wood chips.
