Buddy had some land lined up but others hunting it when we got there not hearing many birds anyway, one new guy with us shot a Jake. Went out today not a gobble zip nothing.

Went to a 400 acre spot yesterday seen a guy parked at one end so I head over to the far end away from him but that’s where he set up. LOL I’ll try another spot in the morning then think about heading home.

I took a tumble last night heading back from trying to roost a bird jacked up a shoulder and ribs a bit but still getting around. Will see what the AM brings.

Birds are working pretty good in SW Mo. Don't know where you are hunting, but might try coming further south.

If you are in NW MO our numbers keep declining. Now only my two best spots have birds (out of about 8 spots 10+ years ago).

I’m North of the Ozark's ya birds have been down for several years here also, we hoped the extra land would help but that evaporated the first morning I’ve not heard a bird in my same zip code in 2 days. Heading to another spot in the AM that might be holding a few birds will see.

Not questioning you but why is gobbling necessary to locate/kill birds. Is there bird sign there. I’ ve killed multiple birds that never gobbled.
A few years ago I killed 2 birds in 4 days. In that 4 days I only heard 9 gobbles. None of those 9 gobbles were made by the 2 birds I killed.
Gobbles are nice but I hunt on sign.
I wish you luck!

With the lower population issue I find it better to locate birds before I set up as my incentive vs places I know that hold birds then setting up first is fine I still prefer to locate then set up on a bird as my first choice.

Geeze, shoulda came to MN. I quit hunting them as my season rarely lasted more than an hour (after a half hour nap). Seemed like a waste of money on a license for that little time...and who wants to eat one of those buzzards anyhow?

MO is a far better state for about everything else, though. I really enjoyed coon trapping down there and their trapping conventions.

We had a gobblin fool come shake hands with a load of tss from my buddy. Been a while since i saw a bird do a back flip. Then, 6 hours of total silence. Saw a few at a distance, but no one would say a thing. And we KNEW they were there. Mid-late afternoon, had a few vocal birds but nothing consistent and nothing showed. Good luck in the AM.

It used to be a lot better in most places in the upper Midwest. Nebraska and Kansas numbers are a drop in the bucket compared to what they were 5-10 years ago. I drove about a 900 mile trip in a big loop through northcentral KS into South Central Nebraska and then back east along the Platte River to Omaha. 2 tiny groups of birds on the entire trip.

Been a tough first week of season here. I killed a good one Thursday, but bird numbers are pitiful in our area.
