It is all in pollination, the one thing that sustains life on earth. I could make three what they pay if I used our land contract.
Today is a gift, that is why it is called the present (rip my friend)

I have CRP ground, am I sucking off the government ? No. You are sucking off of the tax payers !!! In all seriousness CRP is good government welfare as long as the public are allowed to trap, hunt, & fish on it. w

I miss CRP around here. We had thousands of acres in it and wildlife was booming. Everything benefitted. Pheasants, deer, you name it we had more of it back then. Good for you! Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

If you don't mind .gov telling you how you can use your land I see no problem with it. I myself wouldn't if I already owned the land but in a case like jbyrd mentioned I might.

Technically yes but I suspect you're not a crack ho with 8 kids on welfare. CRP actually provides a benefit to society. You are forgoing production to enable that benefit via contract with the government. Other federal ag programs are even more welfare-like but even then it's not quite the same as the crack ho. It's complicated to reconcile. We'd be better off if we just got rid of all of it but we are likely too far down the road to turn around now.

Not much in Crp around here. But there's plenty of other weird government programs to take it's place such as conservation easements etc. I'm not knowledgeable enough to really have a say on the subject.

My father-in law was in CREP paid good money, but proliferated Canada thistle, neighboring farms were (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) about thistle. Other younger farmers renting land were (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) because it CREP drove up the price of farmland rent. He was even paid good money for saplings planted along the creek. Deer ate ever tree and the riparian buffer never got established, he he collected the money no problem.
Thistles are good for pollination. I know row crop farmers hate them.

Been involved in agriculture my entire life and have had this discussion many many many times with others in agriculture. It always ends with, well if I'm not taking the money someone else would be. Which isn't a sound reason for government subsidies.
