The cost of Suet block have gone ski high in the past few months. I started making my own. I used lard for the binder but in the summer, lard will not hold up. Any suggestions on a better binder for the suet blocks?

It is a bit of work, but I made them by rendering beef kidney fat when I could get it. Local kill places now mostly gone. The very cheapest of cheap stuff is good enough if you kick it up a notch.

If you have problems with squirrels going after anything with nuts in it, lace it with cayenne pepper. Lites them up and birds can't taste it.

Not sure about a better binder but I use all the deer fat. The birds just love it

I stuff chunks of suet in the cage. They seem to eat that fine.
