You realize you aint 25 anymore?

Have spent the past 2 days cutting down,hunking up 2 burr oak that are about 26_28" at the butt.
Only got one hauled back to the cabin (firewood). The other will have to wait a week.

Between cutting down,limbing , limbs to a pile,hunking up and loading some Cobbs over 100#, and unloading I'm a pooped puppy. Or should I say "Old Dog".
Also cut down about 100 prickly ash/buckthorn trees and hauled them to a brush pile for later burning. My hands look like hamburger.
I figgered it would take ONE day. Wrong!

I found it wasn't an age thing. After my first surgical repair, things slowed down considerably. I still tried to act like it didn't matter, but humble pie awaits any and all non-believers.

I'm 33 and I'm slowing down, it ain't the years, it's the miles.

I believe this to be true. I know I certainly don't have anywhere near the "gas" that I used to.

Gotta work smart, trees that big are too big for firewood, I don't cut anything bigger than 16" for firewood. Any big ugly crotch stuff stays in the woods or gets sawn into boards.
No point in wrestling large chunks

Another thing, for me making firewood involves cutting a tree, topping it, cutting the rest into 16" chunks, loading for hauling to the splitter, splitting and finally stacking.
One day of doing the same thing all day long is harder on your body than working at different tasks for the same amount of time so cut some, stack some, split some etc etc.

This is the answer.

I got hoped out out of bed on my 40th birthday and fell to the floor when my knee gave out on me. I saw the humor in it and laysles there laughing. You really do start falling apart in your 40s if you use your body hard when your younger.

I cut firewood today also. All you guys need is better vitamins and go go juice. Look into Pre Workouts, I use them all the time.

Made it to early 70’s could do everything then I hit the wall. Now in my early 80’s my mind thinks I am in my 60’s but the body says 90’s

If you would shovel that road rather than hiring someone to clean it, you would be in better shape, or dead one. Either way the wood would not be a fight.

I'm 58 and it seemed like the turning point was about 55 or 56. I have pretty active but it just hurts a little more now.

I am the oldest on my crew and I still can crawl and drag with the youngest of them.

Will be 58 soon. Been climbing ladders for 40 years.
I do feel blessed overall ., I feel purdy good. Not many aches n pain.

Strength/ stamina are definitely going downhill.
Used to throw a bundle of shingles over each shoulder and walk up a ladder. Can still do a bundle now no problem but 1/2 bundle is coming.



Used to throw a 180ish #buck over my shoulder n hike it out 1/2 mile.
No way could I do that now. Or at least I'm not gonna try it.
