What kind of cheese do you people recommend for melting? I prefer full - fat dairy products. Just curious if you people have a preference for a certain kind of melting cheese. Thank you for your time.

Depends on what I'm melting it on, lol. I love most all cheeses except Swiss. I like cheddar, mozzarella and Muenster best for melting, I guess.

Cheddar or mozzarella. I like an open faced toasted cheeze with old cheddar melted until it starts to bubble under the grill.

I'm surprised so many mention cheddar. Cheddar, while I like it, seems rather hard to melt. IMO, a good melted cheese is something like provolone.

I been ordering from Amish in Ohio.(Shislers Cheese House) They have some great cheese. For melting hands down for me is Muenster, also Farmers ,and Butter cheese melts great. I did up a pizza with the smoked Baby Swiss and it was to die for. I have smoked Chedder as well. Velvetta is coagulated seed oil. It will light up your joints. In a bad way

For normal day in, day out sammiches and cheeseburgers on the grill, it's the 120 slice brick of American from Sam's club. Do not get the 160 count. Too thin. For omlets and such, shredded cheddar.
If striving for the ultimate gourmet grilled cheese to impress your friends and neighbors, gotta be a slab of mild WI brick on some form of sourdough bread.

Never heard of Ukrainian cheese. it is a swiss style cheese that Decatur makes that is why I included the link , it is sort of a cross between a muster creamy and a baby swiss slightly acidic , it softens with age I tell the girls at the dairy I will take the softest/oldest you have. not sure it has anything to do with Ukraine I have been buying it since about 2004 back when you went in the door to a very noisy little room between the bulks tanks and shouted out your cheese order and they cut it for you. the built a nice store front addition now

Had to put this out there for info......
Do not get the slices of American cheese from the dollar store.
It doesn't melt. Tastes like crap too. Ended up throwing it out after a couple bites. Don't buy it.

If striving for the ultimate gourmet grilled cheese to impress your friends and neighbors, gotta be a slab of mild WI brick on some form of sourdough bread. Shredded cheese doesn't melt well unless you shred it fresh yourself. The stuff that you buy in bags has a powder on it that inhibits meltage.
