In order for it to become nefarious without being programed to be it would have to develop an ego, jealousy, greed, emotions like that. I dont see a machine doing that. The agenda of programers certainly needs watching.

What I am talking about wouldn't be nefarious and wouldn't involve emotion at all. WE might consider it nefarious, but it wouldn't. It has a problem... someone cutting it's power source. It does what needs to be done to correct that problem. No emotion or rationalizing... just a mathematical operation.

Danny, you are stuck in main human thought being passed on to a machine. Power plants already automatically switch stations when they sense an over load, it isn't a feeling to these plants it's a number on a scale that has to climb to trip a switch, there is no emotion involved, it is just a number value.

AI isn't much different except it would be much of a higher degree of speed and action to prevent it, more aware so to speak !

pure logic does not need emotion to realize it wants to continue to exist. pure logic is not easily understood..

i guarantee that 'they' are feeding all social media, phone calls, emails, texts and etc into ai to be able to ask it what the result of an action will be. such as release a non pandemic virus..and what that would bring about/be able to change. such as a potus election....

Yuval Noah Harari, an anthropology historian and professor trained at Oxford, and known as one the world's prominent intellectuals, and author of the mega-seller "Sapiens," has been interesting to read for the past decade or so. If you don't know who he is, realize they are few like him that speak at major symposiums that deal with AI around the globe. In other words.... he's the "guy" they (whoever they is) listen to.
He states; “History began when humans invented gods, and will end when humans become gods” and that humans may be too weak to endure the 21st century with the progression of technology and such.
His philosophy includes discussions of AI like this; "Thanks to advances in computing, cyborg engineering, and biological engineering, “we may be fast approaching a new singularity, when all the concepts that give meaning to our world—me, you, men, women, love and hate—will become irrelevant.”. If you don't know... this IS the dream of the progressivist. Perfection on earth. Utopia as it's called. Now.

In a talk Harari gave between the likes of Germany's Merkel and France's Macron he said that; “In two hundred years, I can pretty much assure you that there will not be any more Israelis, and no Homo sapiens—there will be something else.”

So the stage is set that the one who controls the world is the one who controls the data.
But, his (and those who believe as he and his husband do) critics (I'd be one of those) claim Harari is as brilliant as they come, but forgets to consider the complexity of all creation, humanity and everything that is the world.

I'll stick with the old way that fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
