There's an old guy who owns a small trapping shop near me, finally decided to retire. He has a bunch of Johnny Thorpe's # 1 lure. Anyone have any experience with it? I grabbed one bottle ( $ 4.00 I think). I might have to go back with mad money, he's selling 3 1/2 # spools of wire, from 16 up to 9 gauge, for $ 3.00 a roll.

No experience but it looks like time to stock up and try some different lures. Those are firesale prices

I thought about buying cases of wire and reselling it for a small profit, but if nobody wants it, I'd be stuck with cases of the stuff. I don't use more than 2 rolls per year.

Yeah, # 9 and # 11 were $ 3.00 per roll. F & T sells it for $ 9.00 a roll. No snaring in NY. Would love to learn how though, to have another tool in the toolbox.

I don't recall Thorpe having a number lure. He always seemed to have a fancy name for his lures.

Mr Fireplug, Johnny's last line of lures: "Bad Medicine", "Red Vixen", "MuskCall", "Mink Eliminator", "Water Witch", "Castorium Special", "Waterloo", "Colorado Cat Paste", and "Barkstone Beaver". He sold the line to Jack Beyers from Michigan........John Epler used to carry some of Johnny's earlier lure line that he sold years ago, from what I was told Mike Marsyada was building them for Epler..........not sure what your looking at but would be interested in knowing and acquiring some.

"Musk Muskcolon", "Musk Castolon", "Cold River Call", "Lynx Cat Compound", "Baskatong Fox Bait", "Racoon Special", "Salmon Oil".......were from one of his earlier lure offerings.....Never seen that #1 before.... most likely from another line... he sold out his lure business 3 0r 4 times.....this pretty cool though

I just read that John Epler retired and Matt and Danielle Brophy took over the business.

As long as I can catch critters when we go North in the fall, it's a win!!! Thanks for the education, guys!
