It is camping overnight someplace where camping is not allowed. Some folks consider staying in a vehicle where it is not allowed also to be stealth camping. AND no it is not being homeless.

Some people do it in cities in places like a roundabout or main road median. Some people who work short periods in cities do it to avoid the high dollar hotels....etc. Some folks just do no want to camp at crowded campgrounds.

I believe it is very popular in the UK, lots of videos on utube...

I did it a few times while camping off my motorcycle but would never have the guts to do it with a full sized vehicle. I only did it when no other options where available and tried to leave everything like it was when I got there. I would find a remote spot, set up late and head out early as to avoid conflict. Didn't sleep well waiting for a very upset LO to chase me off or have me arrested. Doubt I would ever do it again.

If your in a public place and there are not any no camping signs, I dont know what you would be charged with. I am not sure what would be fun about it. I have camped a lot. Never felt the urge to overnight is some park shrubery or the middle of a brushy roundabout or something.

I can picture a forum out there about stealth camping. 50-60 year old Caucasian males. Wearing camo. Camo fishing hat. Knife on their belt. Big belly.

Lol, some of us would ask you if you wanted to barrow our lighter if you proposed that action.
Never trespassed but I have slept on the dear, elk, coyote and salmon grounds may a day.

.no one was talking about trespassing on any property.

I was talking about sleeping in a public place where people were allowed to be.

Out west, Wyoming, South Dakota, Western Nebraska, I'd see some guy pulled over to the side of the road with his head down taking a little power nap. I did a bit of that myself when I use to take vacations out there by myself. An hour or two catnap and I was good for another couple hundred miles.
You couldn't do that here in Missouri, some kind of law would be pecking on your windshield within the hour.

Did a lot of hitchhiking and stealth camping in the 70's. One of the "stealthiest " places I camped was in a little brushy patch in the middle of the Berkley campus.

I also did a lot of it in Alaska in 1981. First night up there I flew into Anchorage late at night. Had no place to go so had one of the hotel shuttles take me as far out to the edge of town he would go. Found a little wooded area and rolled out my pad and bag and went to sleep. Mostly overgrown vacant lots in the middle of towns when I was between backpacking trips.

Those were fun times!
