It is camping overnight someplace where camping is not allowed. Some folks consider staying in a vehicle where it is not allowed also to be stealth camping. AND no it is not being homeless.
Some people do it in cities in places like a roundabout or main road median. Some people who work short periods in cities do it to avoid the high dollar hotels....etc. Some folks just do no want to camp at crowded campgrounds.
I believe it is very popular in the UK, lots of videos on utube...
Where camping is not allowed. Boco needs to improve his reading comprehension as usual.

If you hike the Appalachian Trail(AT) Anytime you set up for the nite and you are not at one of the shelters it is called stealth camping. Did it many times on my hike.

only if you consider islands in the Wisconsin river
you need to travel light , small and be able to pack up fast
I talked to a guy who did it all the time
bivi sack
wait till dark have pre spotted your location generally hidden by tall grass or tucked back in behind some brush set up , very minimal light like a little LED flash light or red head lamp he could basically roll out the bivvy slide in it had like a whoop opening and a tiny little rain fly that his pack went under it wasn't but 2 feet high basically a tent not much bigger than the sleeping bag that fit in it.
don't sleep in in the morning be gone before it was much more than first light
I have heard of people using the hammocks also they set up fast , they are a little more visible but a little easier on the back
I have a hammock but I never tried stealth camping
my son has slept in his truck with topper a few times at the property he was going to hunt , not illegal but
I slept in the mini van and van a few times park where it isn't illegal , park where police won't see you are in the car , dark windows and no lights help. move early wake up before most anyone else around does and drive to a gas station right off to use the restroom and buy some gas or food or something.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I see a lot of rest areas now have signs that say no overnight parking

I guess the wife and I "stealth camped" for 10 days and nights in Alaska last year. We were in a 24' RV. We'd just drive until we were tired and found a flat spot to park on. I did not fly all the way to Alaska to stay at an RV campground with a bunch of tourists. I have never felt more free. That RV had everything we needed. Setting up camp consisted of turning the key off. Nice!

Here's one for you Marty...
I work in Tulsa fairly often and usually take I-44. There are lots of spots up on the high embankments (where they cut through a hill for the road) where a fellow could pull off, drive up to the top, and camp overnight... There are usually trees at the top of the embankment but it's open between the trees and the fence the turnpike authority put up. If a fellow didn't build a fire or somehow draw attention to himself he could probably spend the night up there... Being lulled to sleep by the roar of interstate traffic. Lol.
I'm sure OHP would tell you it was illegal and run you off if they caught you... But it's state land and you pay to drive the road... And you're well off the road/shoulder so they couldn't cite safety concerns.
There's enough of them between me and Tulsa for a bunch of trapline stops... Again, I'm sure the state would throw a fit about that too.

Yup, spent many the night in the back of my pickup wherever I was when tired. I did it 8 days ago in a church parking lot. Only time was told to leave was on the Turnpike in NY. Officer said pull off the turnpike at an exit next time, no ticket. That was quite a few years ago, tho.
For years we camped on national forest and blm land with our tent camper. I hate campgrounds but once in awhile I’ll use one for recharging the batteries and filing the water tank.

I actually get what Marty is trying to say. It's a little bit like hobo shoestring on YouTube. He definitely stealth camps and rides the train.

I stealth camped in my girlfriend's bedroom once back in 1988. Snuck in through a basement window, never got caught.

I think it's legal to camp on National Forest here in Virginia as long as it's less than 2 weeks. Maybe a Virginian can enlighten me further.

i dont think they will say anything so long as you clean up everything. dig a hole and bury your morning waste.I dont think there are any regs against it.
