Who uses them? Do they cast a light lure as well as a open-faced spinning reel? I throw 1/8 oz lures long distance and I just can't see them working well .

I like them for some stuff. Need at least a half ounce for the one ones I have.

Gary you can get some fairly good quality ultra light spinning rigs very inexpensively. A couple of years ago, I got one of the yellow telescoping combos at a Wally world for $20 thinking it would fit under my seat with the piggy lay down pistola.
I have since changed the line out but have probably pulled out a hundred pounds or more on that little El cheapo rig. My lady friend hooked up and landed a 4 pound bass on it this spring!

It was made by eagle claw and I have had good luck with eagle claw rods my whole life. I have a medium / heavy 7 foot yellow pole I could probably rope light weight calves with.

bait casters are for heavy lures your trying to toss up and around structure in my opinion
I will go for an open face spinning for longer casts and ease of interface and fewer tangles and light lures

I throw a 1/8 oz Kastmaster on 6 lb. Trilene XL. I currently have 2 Supercaster reels made by US Reels but they're about worn out and discontinued. They have a large spool which helps out with long casts I landed a 24" rainbow with that rig on a 5 1/2' Ugly Stik.

Who uses them? Do they cast a light lure as well as a open-faced spinning reel? I throw 1/8 oz lures long distance and I just can't see them working well . Been throwing baitcasters for 50 years. Catfish and bass. Ambassadeurs mostly, and a couple of Shimano Curados. The Curados will throw a little lighter stuff but not much. 1/4oz is about as light as you can throw with a baitcaster. The Japanese are into carp fishing like we are bass and I hear they have some really nice high dollar baitcaster reels that can throw lighter stuff. I say if you want to throw 1/8th or less, crappie jigs and such, just get a spinning rod and reel system, You can't beat an Ambassadeur 5000 or 6000 reel for catfish. I've got one I've been throwing for at least 45 years.

I find baitcasters way easier to use when casting all day. For example throwing big musky lures for 16 hours straight, I'd have no skin on my finger with a spinning reel. When casting all day it's common for lexa 400s to actually get almost hot on the side from the gears and bearings. That's baitcaster territory.
Even when burning 3/8oz spinnerbaits for bass I'll cast a baitcaster all day over a spinning reel. Reel in, push button, cast, repeat. Very natural with a baitcaster.
Spring pike jerkbaits, I prefer baitcasters too. Spinning reels tent to allow a lure like a husky jerk to tumble in the air, causing more fowl hooked lures. Baitcasters have less problem with this.
