Its bad here. Went climbing for an afternoon with a buddy up Lolo pass. Easily 100 between the both of us. Hard to believe but ill get a photo next time. He described it as looking like a shotgun blast to the legs. Luckily, our dog ticks are big enough they dont hide well Hopefully you had lunch at the Lochsa Lodge. I sure don't miss driving Highway 12 but I do miss the country.
I have nothing clever to put here.

They are out now here in MN. Been in the woods/grass and have found /felt quite a few.
RM, that looks like a deer tick. Get checked out.
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Takes a while for Lyme to incubate and show a positive. Might not hurt to retest. Sounds like you are behind on getting well. I have had the bad sick from them buggers. Nothing to take lightly.

Bad everyplace I’ve been this year not having chickens we really notice them more now. Started feeding the neighbors birds to keep then on tick duty. MO was bad turkey season many sizes from freckles to wood tick sizes.
Pulled some truck part by the NE border a few weeks ago they were thick. I pulled 6 off my pants and had another on the back of my neck at the same time lost count they just kept coming.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/05/full-50953-177789-20230512_174653.jpg) Here, ticks carry ehrlichiosis, Lyme's, borreliosis (and pyroplasmosis, which affects dogs), but those usually only get transmitted if the tick has latched for several hours, because the pathogen lives in its intestine. These diseases are nasty but more or less treatable. Our ticks also carry several viral diseases, including Kemerovo fever and tick-borne encephalitis. The virus is found in all parts of the tick's body including the saliva so it is transmitted instantly. I am surprised tick-borne encephalitis has not made it across the ocean yet, because veterinary/phytosanitary control has been far from perfect. It's a deadly disease that causes brain inflammation and lasting neurological symptoms, including persistent headaches, loss of cognitive functions, weakness in limbs, paralysis, coma and death. I lost my best friend to this disease and it was a long scary death. There are vaccines but some people don't produce antibodies, and there is emergency serum, but it is not always effective and has adverse effects. The good side is, people here are deathly scared of ticks and the woods in our region are pleasantly empty throughout the first half of the warm season.

I've been wading through the brush Trout fishing but haven't had one on me yet. This past fall while hunting, I had dozens on me.
Could it be the hip boots I'm wearing now that's keeping them off me?
There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Haven’t had a tick on me in years. Treat all my outdoors clothes with Sawyers. Pants, shorts, shirts, even socks. Give’em a spray down inside and out and let’em dry. If it’s a dry windy day they’ll get a double spray. Never had a reaction to my skin and even after multiple washings it apparently lasts. I do it every March and September. And yes, I’m in the woods in some capacity a good 330+ days a year. This is THE treatment for ticks. I use Sawyers on all my clothing and Avon Bug Guard plus IR3535 on my hands, head, and neck-works great for Spring Gobbler setups and shed hunting.

This spring has been the worse I can remember, thankfully they are wood ticks not deer tick. I have been picking 15 or 20 a day for about a week. I agree. This is one of the worse infestation of ticks I've seen in some time. I spray my shoes and pants with permethrin. In the past whenever I did, ticks avoided me. Not this year, I still get a few.
Wife: That's the 4th time you've gone back for dessert, doesn't that embarrass you? Me: No, I keep telling them it's for you.

And yes, I’m in the woods in some capacity a good 330+ days a year. I used "Permitherin" for the first time yesterday. I have always just picked them off and hoped I got them all but I had a can and just sprayed my pantlegs from the knees down and then walked to the pond. I got there and looked down and saw 3 ticks on me. After just a few seconds they started crawling DOWN my pants rather than up and in another couple of seconds they all fell off, apparently dead. I am a firm believer in this stuff now! I used to get them all the time pick a couple out a night started spraying everything with permethrin several years ago , it is cheap when you buy the quart bottle and use a sprayer. ounce per gallon with the 13.3% concentrate cost is a little less than a dollar an ounce for the concentrate making a gallon of solution to soak or spray your cloths with cost you about a dollar. I hang the cloths on a line and spray 2 gallons does me most years

Ouch thanks for the reminders so in the Ixodes tick picture at 1 o'clock I can see a old tick bite from a prior year.( not the red spot) Are you having any effect with new bites and reactions. I know that when an attached tick moves his legs, my body picks up nerve sensations in other parts of my body, and i know I have to do a complete search. One new expanding tick in its range is the Lone Star tick, and just walking across your skin can transmit. It is one tick that can actively hunt warm blooded prey vs the others that just wait and latch on passing prey. Carbon dioxide traps for mosquitoes can be covered with them in the morning after a night set.
