I build little cabins with local lodgepole pine logs.In Idaho and Alaska, no problems with bugs. I use CWF (Clear Wood Finish) which is a Flood product. Has a UV blocker. I have built and lived in log homes for the last 50 years. Never had an issue with bugs, bats, rot etc. The trick with log buildings is the be sure the roof overhang is large enough to keep the building dry,.......especially the corners. Definitely need to continue treating south and west facing sides as time goes on.

I got log building up the gazoo ,they work ok for me but they have been on this place for 100 + wife likes permachink
You can ride a fast horse slow but you can't ride a slow horse fast .
