Can your kids read a map or write and read cursive? Seems like we've lost these things as technology has changed.

they can all read a map , but we are not normal I always kept a Wisconsin state gazetteer int he cars and when they kids asked are we there yet , tossed the gazetteer in the back seat.

the youngest one is weak on the cursive very weak

they quit teaching it when the middle kid was in 3rd grade

Gen Z can't remember or weren't alive for 9/11/2001 basically born after 1996 and were not in school yet when 9-11 happened

Millennial were born 1981-1996

Gen X varies a little but were born 1965-1980

there is a sub group of Gen X the Oregon trail Generation could just as well been called the Apple IIE generation from about 1976-1980 I fall in this sub gen we grew up with home computers , my dad a boomer was into his technology we got our first computer in 1982 a radio shack color II so from about the time I could read we had a computer , we were some of the first people we knew with a computer but we worked on Apple IIE computers and basic coding on middle school

where a lot fewer of your pre 1976 kids learned computer literacy as they learned everything else this also varied by region and education system

Boomers were born 1946-1964 one or more of their parents was returning from he war or they were born while a parent was away with the war.

We had to put in digital clocks at work cause these kids couldn't read the ones we had. I really wanted to go into the office and ask about color blind people not being able to read the new digital clocks, but i didn't.

ok ill go on. 2 languages, reads schematics and blueprints. Builds stem robots with motors (solar) since 6....advanced a yr ahead but is several yrs ahead on test. He isnt geeky and doesnt tout any of this. I explained yrs ago if he is geeky or brags kids may be jealous. Was telling time on an old clock and counting money in kindergarten. Awards out the kahooey but honestly the schools are too slow for him. Straight honors A list 4.0. Older kids didnt like him jumping a yr ahead and being smarter. They made it rough but he dealt,I have to constantly stay on the schools and they dont push him..[Linked Image]

I'm a grandparent of a Gen Z kid and she can do those things and a lot more. She can dispatch caught critters, skin them and put them up and collect urine from their bladders. She can out-fish her grandpa (me) and is becoming a good hunter. She's a hard worker too, she's been helping me load, haul and stack firewood for years now.

Eh...wot?

I'm not sure what is considered Gen Z, but my 24 year old has just been promoted to lead welder for a big company out of Temecula CA. He reads hand written plans and any measuring device well because he either over sees or does any and all fabrication work himself.

He also makes an unreal amount of money doing that.

Well, mine can. Daughter is a high school English teacher and the kids she teaches can't write cursive. In fact, she teaches a class in cursive to teach young people like, how to sign their name, or sign a check or a form. Sad. All they're ever known is keyboarding and grade school type printing.
Also a lot of these kids can't tell time on a conventional clock with hour and minute hands. They're use to looking at their phone for time.

"Gen Z are kids born during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Some sources give the specific year range of 1997–2012."

I object to this. All my life growing up I was considered Gen X and y'all can't change the rules and make me a Millennial now! June 29, 1981

My daughter didn’t want the car we got for her because it didn’t have a digital speedometer. So there you go!

It’s amazing how the times have changed, I’ve known quite a few older guys who couldn’t read words, but numbers weren’t a problem most dropped out of high school and went to work on dirt or tiling crews so they learned how to read grade, today some kids go all the way through school and still have trouble reading, writing, arithmetic, and they sure don’t know how to work.

If those things are important to you, teach them to your kids.
