East Tennessee somewhere around Johnson City. Not too hot and not too cold. Top notch medical care available. Solid conservative (red) state. Reasonable cost of living. Cherokee Nat Forest to play in. 6 hrs or so to the beach.

I thought you were going to Ecuador? It still makes some of the lists for retirement. Then again those same lists have Columbia and Mexico in the top 10. You can live like a king in many of those central America countries, finding an enclave where you won't get shot or kidnapped is the problem. Belize or Costa Rica sounds promising.

I'm sure one could get a good job in Poland teaching the natives how to screw in light bulbs.

HA HA HA!! That is funny no matter who you are!!!

We are going there next month to look around for a place to move to. We started with a map of the the US and narrowed it down to about 15 states. From there we spent weeks researching and ended up with Arkansas.

I could never leave the US I grew up in, This ain't it, though.

I'm open to a lot of places I never thought of before.

I'm starting to think a couple hundred doves in a day might be more interesting than listening to Hannity claiming how great it just might be here.

you might find if you leave MN you will find more of the USA you remember , get away from the cities

try a year renting in the Ozarks your golf lady can get golfing in and you can get some fishing in

or snow bird it , get a RV and head south for the winter and go north for the summer maybe a lake in the UP or ND

neither idea would be more expensive than trying to move out of country

The Philippines ticks all the boxes for me. But I am not asking too much.

There are some pretty decent suggestions coming in.

Arkansaw is one that I had never considered. I will now.

The Ozarks have always been on my radar. I forgot why I quit pursuing it

When I get right down to the facts, I know my other half ain't ever going to agree to any non-English speaking country.

South Dakota is also tempting. Close enough to occasionally see family, but, slightly put off by weather extremes.

New Zealand while still interesting, is a bit far and the time is a bit short to do a fair evaluation, though.

Alaska! Build her an indoor putting range and cut lots of firewood.

As unstable as the world is today I'd never leave the USA and would hide out in a "free state".

I'll take hardship with freedom over comfort and shackles anytime.

my parents snow bird in FL , dad fishes year round the gulf and intercostal in the winter

Lake Michigan and inland lakes in WI in the summer if the wind is blowing on the big lake.

he could care less about golf, mom likes the beach , both have artificial joints and enjoy not being cold and damp

my grandparents snow birded in AZ

mom and dad stay till Dec 27th that covers holidays and deer season.

my grandparents used to leave about oct 10th our last frost free day and come back for a couple weeks around Christmas
they just traveled the country the first 10 years after establishing residency in TX then they would hit TX to get vehicle registrations and inspections but were all over the country in the RV after about 10 years they bought a park model in AZ and just went back and forth in the car

if I were you I would be looking for places with golf courses that run a season pass for seniors a few places in WI have this you buy a summer pass and can golf near every day for the one price.

find that close to some place that you can fish or do what you like to do

I travel constantly - a month in Africa, a month in South America, a month in Europe, a month in USA. Round and round. But when I think of retirement, its always the USA. In the long run, its better to value what we have, and fight for it, than to run away.

Are you still considering English-speaking countries? That narrows your search and possibly eases your selection process.

How about Nebraska? Centrally located in the US and it's not like you can't travel.

Several places in the Ozarks are good. The area in, and around, Emporia, Kansas is pretty good. I have spent a fair amount of time in the Ozarks. Parts of the Ozarks in Arkansas may not fill the requirement of English speaking (not talking about Spanish).

If I ever left my home, it would be to be transient on the Mississippi river system on a houseboat.....north in the summer, South in the winter.
