I hear what you are saying and agree!
On a spot like that, I might use another extension cable or drive in a earth anchor/stake that is easier too access.

I make all snare sets lethal-So I dont use any swivels on snares.
Swivels are a great asset if you set a snare as a live holding device.

Some folks like to tigh of snare with wire. We prefer to loop back threw on fence then wire

My extensions are cut same length as my snare loop, 36". Finished with a #9 swivel. I make other same length extensions with just a loop where the #8 swivel would be. These get looped around a tree or anchor then daisy chained to the snare #9. I can daisy chain as many as needed to reach from set to anchor. I'm kind of a nut for lots of swiveling.

Steeltraps, Those are some well designed fence snares! Fast to set. I bet they work well for the service you provide! Thanks for the pictures.

We have about 400 of them out on around 107000 acres of sheep pastures so speed is important. Looping. In stead of wiring too fence saves time

Chris, I don't see a collar on your snare...how do you stabilize it? A pic would be great.

I've basically eliminated all swivels from my snares. I just don't see a need for them with my style of snaring. I want everything wrapped up tight.

I have used barrel swivels for over 30 years.
One of the first to PUBLICALLY denounce wire swivels
A wire swivel has no place on a snare, IMO.
It's junk and serves no purpose and the only person that will dispute that is a guy who trying to sell it to you.
I ditched the #6 and went straight to the #8, which has a 900 lb breaking strength.
BIG coyotes can damage a #6 and stretch them out
Don't think for one second they can't. Reuse a damaged swivel and you'll get an education
Or . . .take it from me #8 / 900 lb.
Do it !!!

* The closer the swivel is the the animal, the better it will perform. Too far away, it's useless

While I feel there is no need to have a swivel on a coyote dispatch snare (other than legal requirements if applicable), if you do NEED swiveling, the barrel swivels are the way to go.

The wire swivels are only good for satisfying legal requirements.

Everything from mink to coyote gets a barrel swivel as close to snare support as possible, within reason. I then step up my extension cable from there 1 size and always 7x7

I use the big ones on my beaver body traps. Use the smaller ones on 220 and 110 sized traps. I got a coyote by the front leg in a Belilse 220 a couple years ago on 10' of 1/8'' cable. he was there when I checked traps the next morning.

Just passin through
