Who here uses them barrel swivels on snares?
Making up a bunch of snares with #6 barrel swivel.
I have tried them the last couple seasons and really like them.

Haven't lost anything with them.

Some get pretty Bent up with big coyotes.

Has everyone lost anything with breakage?

Let me sugar coat this

Yes I use them on All of my coyote/bobcat snares! Hundred's of them!
I have not had one fail yet. On hundreds of catches.
The #8 is the one I use 900 pound rating!
The #6 is too Small for Coyotes in my opinion.
With the # 8 swivels, I have caught a few deer and the swivel's held up fine until the Break Away S Hook Released the cable!!!
Yep I like them.

All I use now. I use the #8 swivels. It’s not a huge sampling but I maybe have 75 coyote catches on them in the last 4 years. I mainly stick with steel but some places here I can’t keep traps working in winter.

Best features about em are smaller size (harder to see/easier to hide) and less weight (dont make the cable sag)

I build them onto the beaver snares (when snare is set they are up next to the 10" loop. Snares are short as I can make them and still have a 10" loop.)

I put on an 1/8" quick link and then a 4' to 6' extension cable.

Excellent thanks everyone, I really like them because they are small.
Easy to conceal.

I've never gave any attention to the barrel swivels, but this thread has me thinking about them. Never have seen them up close, so one question. Can the swivels open up to enclose around the loop or do they have to be built into the snare when being made?

Built into by looping and crimping the cable.

Where others use a quick link to swap out the loop to the extension I go ahead and make up a bunch of snare ends with the loop already bent and tucked into it's ferrule but not crimped.

In the field I can cut off a used snare after the catch and swap out for a new one and crimp it in the field. I got a 1/16" one cavity swager that works well. It's about the same size as my cutters.

Gotta bulld them into the snare. Which is the only negative I have with these as you can't just switch the snare portion out on the line after a catch. Have to change out the whole thing. Not really an issue for most situations but the spots where the trail doesn't get ruined it's nice to just change the snare part. Could just run as short extension to a trap swivel or ez hook.

Dale Billingsley had a very good video on YouTube showing how to build these snares.

It dose not take much Time at all to replace a used snare with a new snare and extension cable if this is how your snares are set up?
Have plenty of snares ready to use before season starts!
The used snares are saved and rebuilt if possible? During the summer.
Snares can really get tangled up! Especially the long ones.
My open country coyote snares are pretty long.
So I coil them up individually and bundle in groups of ten. This helps keep them organized.
A well made Snare is a great tool, just be careful where you set them.

There's some places that are really gnarly and you really don't want to go back into them to replace the whole thing if you can help it.

#8 they last forever, zero failure. I find old snares on fences from days long ago, that are still in good shape
