A landowner has been getting a boar on camera and told my son he’d pay to have it killed. My son had just pulled the property last week and went back a few days ago and put up a camera. The hog had been coming in about 2230 every night until he stuck the camera up, lol. He then was showing up about 0530. My son went and sat waiting for the camera to go off the last couple of mornings and he was a no show.
Well last night he was there at 2230 again and stayed for 45min…the one night my son went to bed early, lol. Well tonight I was dressed and waiting.
First pic was at 2209.

I called my son and said let’s go! We hauled butt and cut through the woods to get fairly close to the SE corner of the field with just parking lights. The hog was on the NW corner. We jumped out and made a brisk walk around the field to get to the north line. I looked through the scope from 500yds away and could make out the pig in detail. I handed the gun to my son and said lead the way.
We stopped several times to look before stopping about 75yds away. He handed me the gun and I looked again and handed it back to him. He had set it up and sighted it in for me (they have a range at his work) so it was only fitting he make the first kill.
He dropped to prone position and asked if I was ready? I said send it, and he did. The gun emitted a flame out the end of the barrel, but he said he never saw it. In fact, he bolted another round so quick I thought maybe he’d missed or it was running. He stayed on the scope and said that was the coolest thing he’d ever done, lol. He said the gun didn’t hardly kick and he never lost sight of it in the scope. The hog sat on its rear end and then fell over dead.
After making sure everything was clear I turned on the Wicked light I was carrying and I saw the hog in the light.
Can’t imagine what it will be like once I get my suppressor and subsonic ammo.
Rifle is a Ruger American Predator in .308
Thermal is an iRay Bolt TH50C.

The sub sonic will get it quiet but severally limit terminal preformance and range. I can still hear the bullets hit deer with supper sonic and have no limitations. Sounds like a .22 mag. Quiet enough for me. Shoot without ear pro all day with no ringing on bolt guns.

I think it was Alabama did a study and concluded that in their environment, to keep the hog population static (no increase) you'd have to harvest 75 to 80% every year.

That is a crap ton of shootin and trappin!

Kill all you can. There seems to be an endless supply.

Nice job.

Yes it will record…forgot to hit the button, lol.

No, shoulder shot that destroyed the insides, bled out the mouth. Shooting 165gr bullets. I’d suspect if we had to take long shots a subsonic wouldn’t fit the bill. We probably could have kept sneaking in and got within 15-20yds. He had no clue we were there and picked our approach based on the wind.

Had another boar show up on another property last night, so hopefully he’ll come back tonight and I can get my first. I may just go riding and looking. It’s crazy what you can see. He spotted a laid up fawn and we were able to walk up within picture taking distance, then backed off and peed all around to hopefully keep and predator away. Sounds stupid, but we do the same if we stumble upon a turkey nest.

We haven’t even given e-calling a try yet. That could open up more possibilities. I’ll even waste a $1.50-2.00 bullet for a $25 possum or coon, lol.
