Biscuits, gravy, fried chicken and iced tea. I like it all, but the tea. The largest blonde kid looked like a near clone of my nephew, except for being less muscular.

I think you are right GCS, if you didnt like biscuits and gravy someone made it wrong.

In fact it is good enough to be the main course, but I especially like it beside fried rabbit and squirrel. I butter the biscuit and heavily pepper the gravy because I am so sophisticated LOL

Nothing good comes out of an envelope.

Try this.

Crumble and brown about a half pound of good breakfast sausage.

Heat up about a quarter cup of bacon grease to that toss in an equal amount of flour to make your roux. Constantly whisk and brown it just long enough to make a blond roux, maybe five minutes. Just long enough to start developing the nutty flavor.
Pour in whole milk to make your gravy and keep stirring. It'll take a good bit as the flour not being cooked longer will have alot of thickening ability. But you want a thick gravy.

Season with a good bit of salt to offset the milk sweetness plus a good slug of strong black coffee, maybe two tablespoons. Liberally add fresh cracked black pepper, maybe a dash of cayenne if you want heat. Add sausage.

Serve over biscuits or grits.

Leave out the sausage for gravy for country fried steak. You can play with different spices like nutmeg or sage for a gravy side over meats or potatoes.

But a good basic blond roux is a great starting point for so many sauces and gravy.

Use butter and add cheese for mac and cheese or scalloped potatoes au gratin.

You can also swap out hamburger meat for the sausage. Chopped dried beef is your classic SOS.

It's not too hard to impress folks from the UK with American food. I feel sorry for those kids, considering what their normal fodder is.

We had a bunch from the UK came over for a College class getting their Math credits for Shot Fire. I was surprised to learn they do not have Doggie Bags there. If you don't eat it you could not take it home for later. I sure hope we changed them.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Warrior, Thanks!

See, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself!, lol. I always left the biscuit making to her, but she shouldn't be allowed to make a gravy, of any kind!. grin

Done right, just about the best breakfast in the world. My wife makes it all pretty much from scratch. Fried potatoes with jalapenos, onions and maybe a bell pepper and lots of cheese on top. Gravy over everything and two eggs, over easy, then about 1/3 of a bottle of Tabasco sauce. Delicious. Big glass of cold milk, too.

ergo, bibamus.

I bet chocolate gravy would have been a hit too with those young men.

Warrior's description made me homesick for the Deep South. Miss that cooking there.

I'd like for them to try tomato gravy. My missus does about the best I've tried.
