I’ve been making cat gland over 20 years and it about always turns out a grayish green color. I have a batch that’s a year and a half breaking down and this batch has a yellowish tinge to it. Only thing I did different was add the gall of every third or fourth cat and a very little belly fat off the females. It seems the bladders and end of gut has broken down very well. I reran through a food processor and it’s very smooth. Did the gall and/or belly fat turn it yellow? Smell is very good. Three and a half quarts ought to last me until I can’t get out anymore. ( I’ll still be making it though, can’t help it)

Ive only aged cat glands down one time, but it turned yellow when I did it and I saw some someone else made that was yellow as well. Just glands aged in a little urine. For what its worth mine didnt contain any gall or belly fat. Lastly, I have some belly fat rendering down now and it has a pink tint to it when hot and then becomes a more white color when cool.

Bile has a greenish yellow color so it may have changed the color a little.

It is not uncommon to have slight color changes in aged gland batches.

Cream to tan color has always been our gland color. Feces and temperature aging your glands can have a big impact on the final color. Bile can influence the color of the gland as it ages particularly depending on the amount that has been added. Some add other body parts like foot pads, kidneys/livers etc. that all will change the gland color. Too much non gland tissue can add to the color of the gland also.

Be interesting to see what the results in a side by side test would be. For me that's the interesting part.

Friend of mine sun rendered some coyotes glands this year to test. Be interesting to hear the results.

Light Brown color on my bobcat glands. The foot pads give it the darker color. Season harvest limit of 5 bobcats, so I use all possible glands! No liver or kidneys.
I also add bladder urine too the glands.
The urine can cause a strong ammonia smell. When the lid is first opened. It seems to not bother the animals? Tested with Traps!!!

The next time I age glands it will be Without Urine! You can always add it later if needed.
I want the flexibility of adding some fatty oils to the glands.

Some guy wrote an outstanding article in the Trappers Post about this very thing. Now if I could just remember who it was . . . dang. It will come to me.

When gland lure is black looking, it's full of turds for filler.
I've seen a few lure maker's selling that. Pass on that stuff.

You know it's good true glands when it's a light gray to a dark looking
clay looking stuff.

Just my 2 cents

Let me sugar coat this

You got it beartooth trapr. Some it takes a lifetime to learn some things. Filler, feces, dirty urine and blood. All will cause a color and odor change in a product.

I wouldn't want to pay for a jar of turds, but I regularly pick up fresh bobcat scat, soak in glycerine, and mix later with good bcat gland lures. Makes a fantastic bcat lure..and wow is it catty.

Also makes your $25/4oz gland lure go further in addition to making it better.

Yes, I do that small batch too. That’s where I use the stripped out poop from the anal cut. I never mix it in s batch that’ll be on a shelf for years.

You can cover the cat turds in glycerin and the shelf life is years. Smell stays the same.

If I remember correctly, you are a fan of Graham's Tomcat for a bobcat gland lure?

Thanks. That’s good to know. I’ll have a new jar in the shed now.

Scat, touch of urine, enough glycerin to keep it from drying out, great and simple lure that’s shelf stable for years and years.
