A 1 1/2 coil spring. With the springs weakened. But a colony trap In the right situation would out shine all the above mentioned traps.

If you trap a place with a lot of rats,a couple funnel traps in the right places are deadly.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I've always had a hard time getting #1 longsprings to fit right in muskrat push ups, #1 shorties work ok but I only have a handful of them. Planning on trying some Duke #1 coilsprings this year.
Dog faced pony soldier and proud of it!

No doubt about it, a 160 body gripper.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Colony cage trap with a bite bar During the rat days, I had 17 in a 8x16x24 You have to be careful because it is easy to wreck the next year’s ground
Today is a gift, that is why it is called the present (rip my friend)

One spring duke 160. Waxed, Short trigger and no dongs. Dukes have longer springs and larger spring eyes. Nimzy, Who or what is a DONG ? w

#1 stoploss. That being said, staked to hold any animal in the vicinty. These traps have held a boatload of coon and and a whole bunch of beaver--largest beaver I held in a #1 stoploss weighed 56 pounds. Staking is as important as the trap itself. Tom

#1 long spring set up on a drowning rig. IMO, a CS has too much power for the fine-boned legs of rats. True, rats have small bones. My coils seem to catch them higher up in the meaty section. My coils are 30+ years old so that may help. Never did like a #1 in any style.....too small for my liking.

For me it has been the 1 1/2 coil with a pinch pan or a Wild River pan set to fire with little pressure. That trap has caught numerous beaver, otter, mink, raccoon, skunk, fisher, and fox for me as well.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
