I have seen more coons in the last month than I have ever seen this time of year. Every day I have been out in the woods the last month I have come across at least a sow and a litter of half grown coons. At home we have killed 5 in the yard and finally set some live traps to thin more out. Son went out after dark and ran 3 up a tree, another ran out of car garage, another was eating out of the chicken feeder and he had already live trapped one. THis morning we had another 2 in live traps. Number of sows with litters seems unreal. I guess this is what happens when no one hunts or traps them anymore....I have learned coons love old milk replacer as they keep opening a bucket of it in the garage. Don't even have to take my young hounds to the woods these days. Just wait until dark and turn them loose in the yard.....So far distemper has not hit but at these kind of numbers - guessing it won't be long.

Driving home the other day, ran across 5 road kill coon.....all within 10 feet of each other. Sow and 4 kits.

Getting the E fence ready for the sweet corn and believe it or not, apples. Couple years back they stripped about 4 bu of apples off a gala tree and did it in one night. Set up a game camera and 14 showed up next night. Managed to save 2 pecks that the woodpeckers polished off.

What you can buy to eat isn't as good, but is a lot easier to come by.

bad in sw mo also. Probably gonna have to set a few dog proofs to keep them out of my chickens if it gets much worse. I agree with the numbers - have never seen so many - and on game camera's also.

I have had coons strip every apple off a tree in a couple of nights. Just like sweetcorn. No coon problems for months, and in two nights they get four, 100 ft rows of sweet corn. How do you know when sweetcorn is ripe - three days after the coons get it.

Same in Michigan, I have had more calls in the last three weeks than ever before. Seems everyone that has chickens is losing them to coons. Personally, I have never seen more. I caught 25 off my neighbors farm last fall in coyote sets, I talked to him last Saturday night and he told me he has live trapped that many already just around his barns. Have seen a little bit of distemper so far but hasn't slowed them down a bit. I would think the ADC crowd would have a lot of work.

Same in Illinois but I’m a one man show around here which is fine with me but I sure wish the dog runners would shoot them and let them lay

out night fishing on the river Friday, at any time we could shine the bank on the west side almost no houses on the west bank , and see at least one coon looking back. sometimes several

if I had something to do with that many coons , it sure would be fun gang setting that bank come season.

did one like that in 2021 42 in 7 days
should have set a dozen traps the first night and might have been done in fewer trips

I started with 4 and they were all full night one , so went 6 , then 8 then 10

New law on July 1, landowners can kill nuisance animals without permission. Year round . Lot already do. U can't keep the fur out of fur season legally . I am not for the new law at all ,most landowners make a big deal out of nothing . They see a rat in creek. It automatically supposed have hundreds of rats. Find where a coon ate a lil corn. They say coon wipe out the whole field . There already landowners around who use poison for wildlife. I don't like that at all. If do any trapping in area ,bunch farmers around who shoot any deer on there land year round an let lay, I don't like new law . Probly be few more take summer coon to buyers with new law an buyer say there no value
