I released one out a cage trap on a friends land. After he was out I slapped the ground with a flat shovel. He turned around and started charging me..

I chalk it 2 notches above cocaine bear…lolThey’ll come at you even if they’re not cornered. Was sitting on a dam cross legged waiting for ducks. They were swimming around but keeping their distance. I got up to stretch the legs and spotted one under water coming in hot, clack, clack, clack went the SBE2 with 3” #2s but I started shooting while it was still submerged. The 3rd shot kinda looked like a Jaws scene. It came out at me so I wacked it with the barrel and turned him back into the water. He didn’t go under and was leaving a blood trail, swam by my buddy and he finished it off.
Beavers mix well with wolves…..well, in their bellies…hahaha

Beaver was probably just mad for being called flat and not worth as much as northern beaver. As good of an explanation as any.

In spring beaver can become very agressive, and their speed on land is remarkable.More than a couple times in spring I have encountered beaver on land in spring far from any water.when approached they move their heads slowly side to side like they are looking for an escape route, then without warning will charge and leap at you trying to bite.
Seen the same behaviour in late fall a couple times when I got between a beaver cutting feed up on land and the water, cutting off his escape route. They can be very agressive.
Muskrats the same.Although a muskrat leaping at your crotch is not quite as un nerving as a beaver leaping at your crotch.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I've found nutria to be far more aggressive than beaver. Been chased more times than I can count...and they weren't rabid.Beaver aren't aggressive but don't corner one and don't try to take one out of snare alive. Not that I would know, lol. I can relate to the live beaver In snares. We have to remove the beaver from city parks and we have to do It alive In snares. It's not for faint of heart. A 60 lb beaver in a 7 foot snare on dry land Is a hand full.In the water would be nothing to write home about.

Ya ever notice how artists always seem to think beaver teeth are white instead of orange?

I completely agree on all counts. As a kid, I had a muskrat latch on to my pants cuff and hung on as I ran away screaming like a little girl. Another rat came close to the jewels as it jumped at me. I did get even with that one. I had a beaver on dry land charge me once, but I was close to my truck and got back in before it reached me.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Beavers can be strange critters. I once caught a female beaver in a 330, it appeared that she was nursing kits. There was a beaver house nearby so I thought there might be kits inside. I started tearing the house apart until I came to the nest area. There was a large beaver laying there on its back, it looked dead, so I grabbed by both back legs and gave it a heave to pull it out. It turned out to not be dead, it came to life, since I was already off balance, the beaver exiting the nest pulled me into the sharp sticks making up the house. I received quite a few cuts and scratches. I have had many experiences with beavers, but I have never had a beaver attack me.https://www.usatoday.com/videos/new...cks-young-girl-georgia-lake/12252852002/
