Has anyone else noticed a decline in ticks over the last 20-30 years. I used to have to spray down every day and then still get some on me. I hardly ever spray now and seldom get any at all. Chiggers are a different story.

I feel like I have had less adult ticks on me. About 2 weeks ago the nymph/ freshly hatched whatever you want to call the little were bad! Size a little bigger than this "." just big enough that you can make out that they are ticks, give me a temporary "allergic" reaction every time one bites me. Blisters up and stays weepy for what seems like forever.

We have chiggers up the wazoo in our yard. The last 3 years have been miserable. We now spray our shoes and clothes with Permethrin every time we go out in the yard. We have an acre lawn with a lot of bushes, trees, and prairie gardens. Considering contacting a lawn treatment place or something. My poor wife's legs look like somebody shotgunned her.

Do you see good results repelling Chiggers with Permithrin? It does great on ticks but I’ve always felt it didn’t do so well on chiggers. I have best results from a spray with lots of deet in it for chiggers. If I’m going to be in an area where I think there are ticks and chiggers I will spray with both Permithrin and Repell(deet).

I've noticed there seem to be less ticks than there was 20 years ago. As for chiggers, I carry a flock of those on each ankle from May to September every year.

After my week in hospital last august, and docs running 6 IV bags at once in me for dehydration and antibiotics before deciding it was a tick bite matter I was suffering from, I HATE those little things. High fever for days, didn’t want to eat or drink just sleep. My liver started shutting down. Had to stop my chemo for couple weeks until my liver enzyme counts came back in line.
Nasty little bug for sure that carried a wicked payload. I’d had ticks on me once and awhile my whole life and no problems. Then this one hit and Wowzers almost did me in.

Permethrine seems to be repelling the chiggers. They first showed up here about 3 years ago. I have used all kinds of anti-chigger granules and yard sprays but they are still here. Up until a couple weeks ago I thought we were pretty well done with them and did some yard work without spraying with Permethrine. Got nailed big time.

Wife found some roll-on Lydocaine at Walmart that seems to help but they still itch like crazy for a while.

In 2008 I had Ehrlichiosis from a tick bite. Sickest I have ever been. Now when I turkey hunt I carry a can of Permethrine and spray down wherever I am going to sit.

Moosetrot.

Ticks are as bad as ever here. I hate them useless creatures with a passion. I keep clothes sprayed with permethrin and that seem to work. As far as the red bugs (chiggers) stay out of tall grass, I mean higher than your lawn would be mowed unless you spray yourself with a high Deet bug spray. They love where your clothes are tight, socks & waist bands, so spray those areas good. Grandma used to Sulphur our pants before we went blackberry picking. Used to get it at the drug store.

We have way more ticks here now than we did 20 years ago. It used to be we would only see five or six a year, now it is common to see that many a day. Pocket gophers are more common now too.
