I've heard that snake tastes pretty good, so I would like to try it. But the Wisconsin DNR publishes very little information on the legality of snake hunting. all I could find is "There is no closed season for reptiles not listed as endangered or threatened" It seems like they don't want you to know that you can hunt snakes. Anybody have any advice or fun stories about snake hunting?

I’ve had the pleasure of working all over the world and have had snake as cuisine in many Asian countries- in Wisconsin- I prefer Culver’s.

I used to hunt rattle snakes when I lived in AZ. I have at them quite a few ways and my thought is there is not much meat on a three foot snake. If you could get into some of the rain forest types that get to be eight to ten foot long you may have something. If you cut the loin out of a three foot snake you have a strip of meat not as big around as your finger in the thick center part and it tapers down to pencil size. If you leave them hole and skin/gut them the rib meat is about as thick as the rib meat on a four inch blue gill ribs. I can not say I ever thought it was good. There was so little you could hardly taste it.

I ate fried rattlesnake in Florida that they killed at a mine I was at. Tasted a little like a cross between fish and chicken.

Just catch some fish, and eat that! Much safer, IMO

Don’t really have to hunt for them down here, just go walking shortly after sunup or before sundown and they’ll find you.

largest snake I have seen in WI was a 6 foot , they do not get very large most are 1-4 and skinny.

those snakes listed as common and not threatened or endangered average 15-36 inches max length

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
