Anyone shoot this alot ? Where are you finding brass ? Can't seem to find it new anywhere ( at least anywhere that doesn't look like a scam site) and when I do it's mixed range brass smirk

I never got into the short mags, never could see a reason

Casings are hard to find for reloading, ammo is tuff too in rural areas.

I would take my 338 federal up against any of them, 338 bullets are easy

to find and 308 casings are super easy to find

One of the big draws is being able to shoot a big game round out of a short action. Short fat rounds I find are easier to reload also.

For me , basic 308 necked up to 338 fills the bill

Not for everyone as some have the need to be faster.

The 338 bullets bc is hard to beat

I like the .300 Win Mag. Ammo is easier to find, flatter trajectory and more energy downrange.

Wish I was home in Alabama. I would send you a big bag of 300 WSM. Been shooting it since day it can out. 165 gr or less will shoot as fast as or faster than 300 Win Mag IF you know how to load it. 300 WSM Norma brass is best. Then Nosler. Gun broker has both but will cost u

The Norma brass seems to hold a gr. less powder. There is hardly ever any empty space in any of my reloads. The difference between a 300WM and a 300WSM is indiscernible.

I’ve had one in a BLR since 2006. Killed a lot of moose and elk with it. I have 11 boxes of brass, my son loads them up for me. Not sure about the powder, but I know he’s using 180 grain Hornady Interlock bullets.

Igota Med 70 the year the 300 WSM came out. Got it for an elk hunt. Bought a bag of Winchester brass.

I’ve got 300 wsm in Browning a bolt eclipse. Great gun, very accurate. I load the 178 eldx and 180 nosler green tip, with nosler brass. H4831sc.

I bought few boxes nosler brass years ago, found the boxes of 50 for reasonable. I could scratch up some used brass if you need some, let me know.

I agree on the Norma brass. It is worth the extra cost if buying new. The Winchester brass has been good too. Once fired Winchester nickle plated cases might be ok if you can get them really cheap or free. They seem to be hit or miss as far as cracking necks. Some will last several loadings, others crack the first time they are fired as a factory load. For me the 300WSM is a fun round to play with. It can be downloaded to somewhere around .308 velocities up.to nearly the equal of the 300 WM. All in a short action rifle and a more efficient case. It can get your attention too in the light weight guns if you aren't careful.

Never went down the short mag path because I already had the old school long version in 300 Win Mag. Over the years I have accumulated a fair amount once fired brass. Would dread trying to find it nowadays. If I were just getting into the bigger 30’s I would likely choose the short mag.

Wolfie, have you tried putting it out on the Trap Shed as WTB?

I'm considering it. Was honestly trying to see what the average price will run me but will probably make a post soon
