One of the big draws is being able to shoot a big game round out of a short action. Short fat rounds I find are easier to reload also. For me , basic 308 necked up to 338 fills the bill Not for everyone as some have the need to be faster. The 338 bullets bc is hard to beat

I like the .300 Win Mag. Ammo is easier to find, flatter trajectory and more energy downrange.

Never went down the short mag path because I already had the old school long version in 300 Win Mag. Over the years I have accumulated a fair amount once fired brass. Would dread trying to find it nowadays. If I were just getting into the bigger 30’s I would likely choose the short mag.
Wolfie, have you tried putting it out on the Trap Shed as WTB? I'm considering it. Was honestly trying to see what the average price will run me but will probably make a post soon

I’ve got 300 wsm in Browning a bolt eclipse. Great gun, very accurate. I load the 178 eldx and 180 nosler green tip, with nosler brass. H4831sc.
I bought few boxes nosler brass years ago, found the boxes of 50 for reasonable. I could scratch up some used brass if you need some, let me know.
John Might have to take you up on that

I never got into the short mags, never could see a reason
Casings are hard to find for reloading, ammo is tuff too in rural areas.
I would take my 338 federal up against any of them, 338 bullets are easy
to find and 308 casings are super easy to find It's my buddys beautiful sako only been shot a hand full of times and hall he has is a old box of rounds. Told him if he goes 50/50 and lets me hold on to the rifle I'll load him some up.
