I have new Kerr bands and lids that don't want to seal on Apple pie filling. Has anybody got preference of one brand over another?

Ball is what I buy if available, and it has been all but that one year that there seemed to be a shortage of everything.

Bought some new jars this year and they had an off brand for 12 bucks a dz. but I passed on them and paid 18 buck for Ball thinking its a better jar.

Just bough a dozen pt ball jars for $12 after seeing a pint glass bait jar was around $3 shipped now ball makes a good jar for the price. They make an all plastic lid for canning I always wondered how well they worked but I don’t can anything.

You're supposed to put the lid on the jar not the filling. But seriously, you may be over tightening the band. Just put the band on the jar snugly.

A couple years ago, we bought a big sleeve (maybe 16 inches long or so) of no name lids from an Amish store. For most part, they have all worked. Only flaw i can see is some may be slightly oversized as they come out of the canner with a creased upward pucker. The metal expands and has to go somewhere. Problem more common with wide mouth than regular. But that has been the experience using a no name generic.

Kerr and Ball are same, except for name. Golden Harvest and some others may come off the same line. Have used Ball, Kerr and GH with no issues.

Applie pie filling may be the problem. If it expands to the point it is forced under the lid while being heated under pressure, that sticky residual stuff under the seal may keep it from sealing.

Could your Jars be too full? I had peaches do it before and I had filled them.to much and th6w sugar had seeped under the lid and wouldn't seal

I have been using Ball mostly, but Kerr and GH have both sealed for me. I've been buying/using what I can find locally. We are pushing around 100qts so far this year and have only had 4 fail to seal. The ones that failed were Ball lids, but I believe I may have overtightened the rings on those.

I have a tendency to overtighten myself. I know ya don’t need to, but I do! GH is the cheapest around here and my mom used to use those before we had an “in” for a while with another brand and got them free. GH is kind of sentimental I guess, so I use them mostly and have had no worse luck than the others. Happy trapping! ScottW

Did you boil the lids before seating? I've found it softens the rubber and helped with consistent sealing. Don't over tighten the rings.
