People like eating chicken. A lot. I prefer drumsticks and thighs, skin on, fried in lard. People raise chickens cause people like me buy them. So long as us animal eaters keep eating them, people will keep raising them. I can't see this eliminating livestock production. Its a very fringe element that has a problem with eating animals.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

It won't unless one or two things happen. Laws against and/or market pressure. Probably a combination of both, use the the first to push the price structure. The final nail would be personal possession. But I hope to see the idiots vegans shot long before it gets to that. BTW, the skin is the best part.

It's been at least 25 years ago since I learned about meat chickens being 6 pounds in 6 weeks. From hatching. So it's not to far from what we already eat. Remember that margarine was developed to fatten turkeys , and they wouldn't eat it. So they added yellow NO.5 coloring and called it almost butter, better for you than real butter. One molecule from plastic is what they say. Now they say butter is better for you. LOL Kind of like global warming, and it's causes. I like real milk and real butter , buy from local butchers and or farmers . Closer to real as you can get.

The liberals will keep putting more restuctions on meat production, to make it prohibitively expensive to produce and consume for most people. Look at what's been going on in California towards those very ends. Keith

And the broiler chicken and battery hen has eliminated many breeds already.

Have no knowledge of that breed or very little anyway. Leghorns are used in factory farms as they can lay an egg a day. Ate plenty of the old hens and young rooster as a kid . Dad had his egg farm , and worked full time as a Master mechanic in the operating engineers . Gathered 1000's of eggs and washed and candled them too. That's why I raised the white and red rocks. They grew bigger and had a double value.

I think we need to rethink the current model. I have no answers but when your skating on margins that thin the dangers are real. The biggest problems are that commercial farming kills competition and bioiversity.. The bio-security at the big farms is amazing. One disease can easily wipe out an entire population with no diversity in genetics. The commercially produced bananas are so genetically similar that there is a reasonable fear they could be entirely wiped out. Commercial hogs, meat birds and layers are also at risk. Keith

Keith Yup It's already happened once to bananas. The orignal cultivar that put bananas on everyone's menu was Gros Michael aka Big Mike. Phtyophorra root rot wiped them out. Today's Cavendish while resistant to the Gros Michael strain is vulnerable to others. It's why hundreds of thousands of birds are killed off every time a strain of bird flu goes through.
