Generally basements are not a thing for the coastal plain. Land is so flat that basements are just holes in the ground prone to filling with water.

More often than not slab on grade but crawlspace or pier foundations can still be found.

Keep your heads down fellas. 70 mph can do some wicked things including cut your house in half with a big tree.

Watching the radar it seems to be moving along as it should. Hopefully the worst of it will be out of way by dark.

The eye passed over us...centered us perfectly.

We're about to enter bottom wall now.

A couple neighbor's homes are destroyed by trees.

I have siding blew off and metal roof loosened....so far.

It generally took a week to three weeks for some folks to get power back after the one hit here.
Those 70mph winds are no joke. Like I said before, its like a very long tornado. Stay safe. It will definitely have you evaluating things differently after its over. All the trees around the house were cut down. Those along the fence line the neighbor and I went in halves to have removed. I had to put up a new privacy fence because it was blown down.
Just stay safe and watch for downed lines if you get out afterwards.

I heard the beavers are even heading to higher. Out west here we get 60+ mile an hour winds a few times a year. Had one last night. Always when it changes from summer to fall and spring to summer.

Glad you came out alright Swamp Wolf. We sure have been getting a lot of rain out of this deal even with it being so far away. Got 3 and a half inches last night. Supposed to start raining again here in a few minutes and go all the way till 8am tomorrow.

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Just blown off siding and metal roofing almost gone. Roof gonna have to be re-done.

No power. Incredible amount of trees and lines down. Thousands of homes in area are severely damaged.

This was a BAD one!!!

I'm glad you dodged the bullet but unless your place is about 20 ft above the nearest body of water and has no trees on it, I'd have gone to visit Clay.

Tarp the roof and call the insurance adjuster. Prob. be awhile before you get that issue fixed. The power company's do not clean around their lines and that can cause major issues when there is an event. We see it in the west due to fires all the time. I am lucky we have a good power company but its a co-op. Houses in the south are not built to withstand much as far as I know. The neighbors all gather in an event like this and chip in the get things back up and running. Hopefully you have some good ones. Generator is a pretty good investment.

Can't speak to south Georgia but up here Georgia power does a good job keeping stuff cut back off the lines. I know because it seems like every other year I got a crew knocking on my door wanting to butcher up my pecan tree and asking if I can move my bees. They ain't cut it yet, lol.

Still doesn't stop hurricane damage but it definitely speeds up putting it all back together.

The trees made it a touch scary. I fared well...neighbors not so much.

A logging crew is supposed to be here tomorrow to get big poplar tree off neighbor's home. He told he would remove any trees while here. Supposed to bring his cut-down machine amd take down four 80- 90 ft pines in my yard. Wont have to worry about those again.

Yeah...good neighbors, but several of them fled....where to I don't know. Some haven't returned yet.

I took my tractor and cleared most of the street after the eye passed....at least one way..other way is blocked with large oaks and powerlines.

Generator is running.
