Don't know if it works, but he does it every time (on TV anyway). Always wondered if it's a scent thing, or what.

Marten aren't picky.

It works. You can make a lot of "bait" from a dried out moose hide, burn it, add some lure, presto, marten hanging and waiting for a ride home! It does add a scent. Use a propane torch, much faster. The black stands out in the snow very well. You don't have to feed them, just catch them.

The couple fisher I got last season were baited with marten lure blobbed in a clump of wool and the other in a small patch of fur. I’ve heard that if they find your bait/lured set, you basically get them.

Wouldn't have much smell in subzero temps, never had much luck here using attractors ( grouse wings etc. )and get a fair amount of refusals with attractors/ lure combo. Green fish on the other hand has worked the best for me. Experiment, find what works, and roll with it.

Never tried burnt hair, but I've not had much luck with just lure. A good loud lure to get them to the set, but a good chunk of bait to get them to actually work it has been what works best for me. I would think the odor from burnt hair would dissipate within the first couple days, but like I said I haven't tried it.
