Jalstat that's how I've done it since I was a kid as well. That's what's dad taught me. Also went to Montauk two days ago and caught two rainbows that were 3 pounds. All I caught should have caught more but I couldn't set a hook to save my life. Rose Holland tournament is in October should come down and catch you a tagged fish or two.

Yep went for 1 hour in the creek caught 12 from 2 - 8 pounds. If you can only guess what color tube lol

I did the same most of my childhood.
Got tired of skinning cold squirrels , tuff as heck to skin.
Went to skinning and gutting where they fell.
Many times shot another while skinning the first one.
Put in zip lock bags and would sink in the creek , then hunt for more.

As for the squirrels I did that many years ago but I dislike skinning squirrels more than I like eating them so I don't even go anymore. We only have fox squirrels in my area of this state.

I peel mine as quick as I pick them up. Ziplock bag next to my frozen water bottle. Mostly all grays and blacks here.

Done that for years. I hate the sensation of a vest pulling up into my throat from the weight in the game bag. I will however; wear a vest if I am using a dog. It cuts down on the issues

Cut a stick in the early years but got tired of skinning cold squirrels so for many years used feeding grounds method. Easy right after shot. But now that my arthritis is getting bad I use an old duck carrier and take them home to my shed and use a Ridge Runner squirrel skinner. Always save the good tails and trade for lures

Same issue with arthritis, so skinning in field last few years.
