There were no sporks, nor ketchup, nor straws, nor napkins at the normal island where you normally find such items. Poorly managed joint in my opinion.
I went to the counter and there was a few people in line, so I sidled up to the counter beside those folks in line. The gal who had originally taken my order came right over to me and asked me what I needed. Recalling that while she was very good at her job, and was clearly not a lollygagger which is usually the case in fast food joints around here, she had that, "I don't really like this job" look on her face.
She turned around and went straight over to where the sporks were behind her and also grabbed me a handful of napkins which I did not ask for. I tend to wipe my chicken grease on my pants to give my dog false hope later.
She came back quick and handed me the spork and the napkins, never said a word, and went straight back to taking customer orders.
I said thank you and went back to my table to eat.
I couldn't help but think about the kindness, however small it may seem, of thinking about giving me some napkins.
After I finished, I went back to the counter and sidled up to it once more. She came right over to me to see what I wanted. I asked her if they have a lost and found. She said no. I handed her a 5 dollar bill and told her that someone must have lost this. I then turned around to leave, and heard her say, "Thank you."
I didn't turn around and just walked out the door.
She did not make a big production about giving me napkins which I didn't ask for (but needed), so I wasn't going to make a big production out of giving her a 5 spot.
I just hope that I made her day as much as she made mine.

Whenever I am out doing NWCO work int he summer I look for any lemonade stand I can to buy a drink. Sometimes I don't even get a drink as I am diabetic and I am sure the lemonade has sugar but I stop at any I see and pay extra. Glad to see so many other do the same thing! I like so many support any kids who are willing to WORK to get spending money.

Around here kids get lots of visitors to their stands.

Mostly cops checking for permits.

Lemonade stands are perfectly legal in Minnesota........after you purchase your $50 business license.

"In Minnesota, a permit for a lemonade stand will run you $50. So, your kid starts out fifty dollars in the hole, not counting the cost of the lemonade and cups, etc.

Popular lemonade maker, Country Time Lemonade, has started a movement to make lemonade stands legal nationwide. Hopefully, if enough attention is given to this farce of a law, it will be repealed." Says radio station 103.7-The Loon.

Great story….and I’m sure you made a lasting impression on them. I whole heartedly agree in teaching kids the value in business. I realize that work ethic of today’s kids can be an issue and it’s a great thing to teach them. At the same time, not every lemonade stand customer has good intentions. As a parent, I would have a problem with my entrepreneurial kid setting up a stand at the end of my driveway being a potential target for anyone that passes. It’s not the same world today that most of us grew up in years ago.

I worked out of state for a few months several years back and I found a fav place to eat of course. First time i ate there a little red headed college girl provided outstanding service. I would have left her a nice tip, but nothing I remembered. Next time I was in the door she ushered me into her section telling the other girl where she would sit me. Again, the best service you'd find anywhere.

This went on until Christmas and I ate in there at least once a week. She remembered what I drank, knew I wanted ranch dressing and no croutons, etc. When I finished I just left a $100 bill for my tab and left (my bill would have been +/- $25).

Anyhow, just as I found my truck in the parking lot I heard the pitter patter of little feet. She said hey, you forgot your change. I told her no I left that for you, it's Christmas time after all. She gave me a bear hug (all 5 ft nothin of her) and told me that I had no idea how much that meant to her and her family. She said she was graduating soon and between a scholarship, her mom and dad scrimping for the last few years, and her working 5 or 6 evenings a week after classes that she was going to graduate with a 3.8 and NO student debt! I accepted my hug and got out of there quick because I might have needed a Kleenex.

Ppl are right when they say a lot of young people today are soft and lazy. Whenever I see one that stands out as the opposite of that I have no problem rewarding them. Your lemonade stand reminds me of the guy who posts on hear about his pint sized egg dealer. Is that Jalstats neighbor girl? I cant remember.

Today I'm coming home from golfing around 1:30 on a seldom traveled county road. The temperature was close to 90 with very high humidity. As I rounded a slight curve in the road I see a little girl standing beside the road waving her arms. My immediate thought was something is wrong so I slowed down. As I was coming to a stop, I saw a table and some pitchers and plastic cups. I then knew she was trying to sell water or lemonade. I did that a few times when I was a kid. I was immediately impressed. Most kids would be indoors playing on their cell phone or computer in this weather. But there she was, maybe 10 to 12 years of age, out in this heat trying to make a couple dollars. I rolled to a stop and she asked if I would like to buy some water or lemonade. I asked how much and she said the water was a dollar and the lemonade was two dollars. I said give me a lemonade. She handed me a glass and I handed her a 20 dollar bill and told her to keep the change. Her eyes got real big and she said, "FOR REAL?" I said," Yes, for real." She said "REALLY?" I said, "Yup." Her eyes got even bigger and a big smile came across her face. She then asked my name and I told her and then I asked her name and she told me and then she said," It's nice to meet you." I told her it was nice to meet her. I told her to have a nice day and as I drove off she started running towards her house screaming at the top of her lungs, "MOM, MOM, LOOK WHAT I GOT. MOM LOOK WHAT I GOT."

The lemonade was weak and it was warm, but it is the best lemonade I have ever had and it was the best $20 dollars I have spent in a long time!!

I agree, that was money well spent. You made a little girl's day and yours as well. Great story!

Wife: That's the 4th time you've gone back for dessert, doesn't that embarrass you? Me: No, I keep telling them it's for you.
