When I would be teaching my grandchildren to be suspect of folks in uniform, especially law enforcement. Sad

I am wondering when there wasn't a day

just depends who you are

I suppose if your family was always wearing the uniform maybe you didn't think that way

I know cops and even they don't teach their kids to intrinsically trust uniforms.

anyone who hasn't been teaching their kids to keep family business family business is rather naïve

Different regions I guess, I know most police and just about all the Deputies in my town. Trust them all. Then again, I taught ALL my kids to obey their commands whether justified or not, we’ll deal with whatever in court.

I am not meaning to be anti cop.
I work with them regularity.
I know nearly all the police in my town , interviewed half of them as part of a citizens panel to aid in selecting officers and we do good background checks on them.

they would be the first ones I would tell my family to go to for help.

I also would tell my kids to lawyer up if they did do anything and in some cases even if they didn't but were subject of an investigation.

cops don't walk into investigations without union representation why would you.

This was the standard for the most part but given the recent behaviors that have come to light, no longer will they get the previous benefit.

I understand there are plenty that are good and honest about the job but with their knowledge and authority, how can they sit and do nothing?

I work for a large municipality, 111,000 residents or so. We pay our police officers $19.68 starting out. I can think of much easier ways to make a living without always having to be under the scrutiny of the public.

I don't know why anyone in their right mind would be a police officer for 40k per year

what are they not doing and what jurisdiction are we talking?

what laws should be being enforced or what is being enforced improperly?

State of Georgia employees dental plan = have to pay premiums for a full year before a claim, then only covers 1 cleaning and select procedures.

Must be better in your area/state/city....??

I always tell new officers and trainees to do their job, do it right and ignore the judgment from people that don’t know what they’re talking about. You won’t please everyone in this career.

Prime example…

When we lived in Marion County Florida every single officer I met there were the most courteous and respectable people I ever met. Milwaukee Wisconsin were nothing but Gestapo POS!! Tried to give me a DUI once when I did not even have a Vehicle and when the same Cab Driver that brought me to the Bar showed up to pick me up they threatened to arrest him as well. TOTALLY Unprofessional. It took me 1500 dollars in legal fees to PROVE they were LIARS but I did.

Just noting a change in the times. As stated I have always held them with the upmost regard and never had a problem with authority. I guess my first clue should have been when all 5 family members left the force but I’ve held on a little longer. lol
