Has anyone had any experience with fresh preserved rattler as a lure base or bait? I've done a lot of testing on aged/rotted rattler for both canines and cats and I have my own conclusions. But just started fooling around with fresh preserved stuff. I have some preliminary results that seem too good to be true, so I'm interested in whether others have a similar experience.

Tracy, I know if you caught that cat live, my wife would pay you double what it’s worth to have it here on the property. She hates rattlers. Lol. From what I hear, you aren't too fond of them yourself. :-) That wasn't my video, but my own initial testing with the fresh rattlers is encouraging. I'm not prepared to make a blanket statement yet because so far my testing is limited to summer weather conditions. Give me another 4 weeks and we will see if the FAS in the snake meat increases its appeal.

EJ: I had the same thoughts of using both my aged snakes and some fresh. Apparently geniuses DO think alike. :-)

Yes, fatty acid. If you skin a snake that's in good shape, you'll see they have large pockets of fat on their carcass.

Would those giant snakes in Florida work? Might be a way for those boys to put a few dollars in their pockets.

Is someone making Weisers lures now? Don't quote me Seth and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Brett Bartlett bought the company from Andy. He was talking at the Kansas Convention on trying to find somewhere to get the bags made again.

I have two batches of rattlesnake based lure that has aged three years. I rotted it down for about a year then added castor to it and let it break down another year. Completely changed the rotted smell of it. Then I divided the batch and added canton musk to one half and civit to the other. I plan on testing it more this coming season. They both smell like ‘professional’ lures and have a thick, pasty consistency. When I added the musks I also added methyl paraben. I’m an amateur so you lure makers look over any mistake I made. A tiny bit of skunk may go into smaller four ounce batches. Hoping to trap an area or two that truly has rattlesnakes. I suspect it might be better there, I don’t know. How is your testing coming along?
