I'm looking for a better way to store my 1.5s and #2s for rat trapping. I currently use a big tote or a couple of smaller totes, which they work on but are not the best. I was thinking about getting some more milk crates and setting a predetermined amount of traps in each one and that way I know how many traps I have without having to count every single one. I would put plywood bottoms or something similar so that way the chain doesn't fall through. I think I can fit about 24 1.5s in a standard sized milk crate. This would also be for the end of the season when I need to store them away in the garage or shed. What's your guy's opinion on this? Thanks in advance!

I use a pipe between the studs and the traps in a count of 5 bundled together hung across the pipe.

I wished I had more milk crates! Don't buy the cheap ones, get the heavier ones. They stack easy in storage and in the back of my UTV bed. Something else I found that is great is 2 1/2 gallon buckets. I drill big holes in the bottom so they will drain. What I like is if I need some 1.5's I grab a bucket or three, and simply load them up in the UTV or truck. If you can find the larger milk crates they work good for beaver traps and the larger bodygrips.

I have a friend that has a business that uses 2 1/2 gallon buckets. He gets them for me, with lids, anytime I need them. I use them for dried grass clippings, peat moss, dry dirt, drowning cables, anchoring cables, etc. Sometimes I have to use a pirogue to get to my trapping spots, so the lids on the buckets are nice it keep everything dry and neat.

I used to use totes and got tried of dealing with them. I used to hang my traps and it was a pain to deal with. For the style of transportation and trapping I do I find milk crates and buckets to be the ticket.

If you go milk crate route, put plywood in the bottoms so the chains and swivels don’t go through the cracks and get stuck every time you grab one, then you get mad and just flip the entire crate. Even then sometimes they will go through the sides.

I use milk crates and I label each one so I know what is in
the crate when they are stacked, I put card board in the
bottom.

Use to use totes or just hang up on hooks. Now I have these big wooden crates i get from the shop that parts come in to be machined. I snagged 3 of them and put wheels on bottom so I can just push around if in my way. Each crate can hold 200 #2 #3 size foot holds. They also serve as portable benches to stack other thing on and out of the way when lid is shut.

I use milk crates, but don't I don't use plywood in bottom. I line the bottom with 1/4" hardware cloth, so the chains won't fall through.

Milk crates for me as well in the off season. I use a big wooden box in the back of the truck during season, just refill it out of the crates when needed. I have a wooden rack in the back of the truck with expanded metal down the middle. I put the animals in so their heads are over the middle to allow blood to drain away and they aren't laying in a puddle in the bottom of the truck. There is a rim on top of the box with small spaces around to drain rain water but it holds snares and bait and such for easy access. PVC pipes on the front of the box for hammers, tools, and stakes.

He's an earlier version from back when I was doing a lot of snaring.

It never stayed really well organized during the day but I straighten it all up again after skinning each night.

Did a little experimenting with this style after the previous design for more room the stack coons. It worked well too. The tray could slide along the inside rail of the box on some aluminum angle. It worked as designed once the traps were all set out.

When I have used milk crates the chains have fallen through the holes and gotten tangle with the other traps below making a mess. I like totes.

There are hooks on both sides and a vice on the one leg.

Mine have small square holes in the bottom too small for chains to fall through but others put a board, thick plastic, or heavy cardboard in the bottom. Totes aren't durable enough for my liking, I also prefer they aren't so air tight so the traps stay dry and aired out.

Shows again there's more than one way to skin a cat.
