Need to replace my duel purpose marine battery on my boat , what brand does everyone prefer?

I've had really good luck with interstate marine batteries

Don't waste your money and get one from Rural King at half the price of the West Marine one. .... Personally I am not fond of the so called dual purpose AGM's as AGM batteries are not by default made for high amp draws like starter batteries. But if you are just cranking over a little outboard you can get away with them.

Just to add, there is no such thing as Marine batteries. other than the threaded posts for lug connectors. But you can get adapters for the post clamps if you need them. The " Marine" sticker is just away of doubling the value of said batterie. I use Ag batteries in my boats. Going with the thought process, that if it is good enough for a tractor to use bumping around on a field, its good enough for a boat. Farmers don't like to spend money on things like batteries so they tend to be cheaper that the same ones with a Marine sticker on them

Ya the marine battery warranties all suck.

I have a Evinrude 115 etec and a Honda 9.9 to start plus all the mis junk like fish finders and down riggers on this battery

Thats whats in it now and 8 years old , however the reviews lately show they can be hit or miss depending on where they got built.

my little 25hp outboard , a fish finder , some lights and a 55# thrust bow mount probably don't need any sort of fancy battery

! PLUS walmarts everywhere. They can scan the bar code and tell you where it was bought and when . Get the MAX series . Its 10 bucks higher but free replacement covers that line...

I have used Deka batteries and they seem good.

Make sure its a deep cycle battery.

I'm not going to agree with jbyrd. However, I use use the same batteries he does, for the same reasons, plus I have had great luck with them. I only have 3 of them plus a smaller interstate battery for a starting battery. I have spent a lot more on others and never had any better luck with them.

What is a deep cycle battery? Aren’t they recommended for trolling motor use?

Everstart from Walmart or duralast from AutoZone. For a true deep cycle. Get the group 29 or 31 if they have them. The heavier the better.

Go lithium. They are $300 but have an 11 year warranty.

Yep, the only ones I run in my boats. They are the best amongst the locally available brands. Look for 800CCA and unless you really need it, not a deep cycle. I don’t run much that has a draw without a motor running to charge the battery, so I stick with the starting type of battery.

I got 8 years out of my last set of blue top optimas. They still took and held charge but would get weak after about 6 hours of hard fishing.

I usually get 2-3 years out of the everstart max.
