What style hat? A Davy Crockett type can be made from 1 big hide.

One XXL coon.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

There are some things to consider when making a hat, what type of hat, fur all around or just on the out side, size of hat , adult or kids. Measurements are critical when never doing one before, it's best you make one out of an old sheet or towel to become familiar with sizing and sewing.

Most large mediums will do a Trooper hat with fur outside, if you block it well enough, but it would be better to have large one.

Two large will do fur inside and out easy enough once blocked !

Most hats I do, I never put fur on the inside of the crown, its just to hot and uncomfortable to wear for most people.
I will put a nice light weight wool liner or felt though so there is no leather contact.

Good luck !!

I have done both and agree, you won’t keep one on long with fur on the inside too. Not to mention if you don’t remove the guard hair.
