Jim R from I falls routinely takes 3 to 500 beaver through the ice

My best year through the ice was 357 in 5 weeks. If a MN trapper has time and takes advantage of the seasons he can pile up as they say.

Time and motivation is the biggest factor

You must have been in a different Minnesota! We’re you talking about the spring of 2023? Not the best spring ever, but there was plenty of time to make a good catch.

If I wasn't such a loafer I would give myself a good chance of making Oregon the winning state. Open water all season long and the season lasts 4 months.

Snares or traps?
or both.

I was talking to Jim R last week, he had over a hundred beaver, not bad for his age 82.

He is my idol, I just hope I can make it to that age never mind still be trapping beaver.

If selling on the carcass you handle the beaver 4 times. If you skin and put it up it’s 7+ times. I usually figure 12 time for me.

Thats 9+ tons of beaver from a trap, uphill to your truck, from your truck to your fur shed, to your skinning table, to your fleshing bean, then stretching, taking off the board and wipe down and store until you take it to a fur buyer!

You would make a very poor railroader if you couldnt handle lifting a few tons every day.LOL.
Handling beaver is a picnic in comparison to spreading ties from a rackflat or loading spike kegs, tie plates, angle bars etc on a lorry or transposing rail on the section.

Here we work smarter, not harder and have embraced something called HYDRAULICS.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I got 48 hours when season opened. I did open up again during deer season for a while. Poor ice and lack of snow are limiting where I can go right now. Hopefully in a few more days there will be enough ice to get onto some of the remote ponds that haven't been trapped in 10 years. Not enough ice for the ATV and not enough snow for the Tundra so I guess I will be doing it the old fashoined way with a Duluth pack and Camels.

160user You should have some colder weather coming. I show a week of nights below 0 starting the sixth. It may last longer, they don't show a forecast out further. Some of that has to drift your way.

Robert, if you are asking about me, it was bodygrips. I don't believe Jim snares under the ice but I wouldn't bet that my assumption is riight.

Gibb, thanks for the update on Jim. That is fantastic, he is a winter beaver trapping phenom.

The ice is good enough if you don't mind walking and falling through once in awhile. Be careful in the current areas and of course around the house. Couple more nights and it will be all good. The last week or so it's been almost like taking candy from a baby

Past history, I have been a land trapper, where can anyone stop and get one of those Chequamegon - Nicolet National Forest beaver maps?

I pulled my last beaver sets Christmas Day. I was falling through daily and got tired on wet feet. I hope to start plugging in some fresh stuff in virgin ponds today. I don't like the long hike into this flowage but I am excited about (hopefully) finding a large colony.
